I posted in another topic about the M2350 notebook mentioning restore discs and I told what information I knew of about that computer and the driver issues another person had. After doing a search through the forums on this model eMachine, I turned up empty handed, and am starting another thread in hopes that another person might be able to help me.
I am looking for drivers to the M2350 eMachine notebook. I did a fresh install of WindowsXP Pro, free from the Service Disks that would normally be put onto the machine at factory, so the computer runs very well. I installed the Broadcom drivers for the built in Ethernet and it runs fast and smooth, obtaining over 500KB a sec downloads without any issues, and I also located the video drivers for the ATI card inside as well. However, my luck ran dry thus far on obtaining other drivers for the computer after these.
I am mainly searching for the dial-up modem drivers for the computer right now. According to SiSoft Sandra, the tool I used to obtain the information needed to get the drivers for the video and the Ethernet, the modem within is OEM Device Name: Acer Labs Incorporated (ALi) Agere Systems AC'97 Modem; and the Device Name is: Arima Computer Co Agere Systems AC'97 Modem.
I have attempted to use many Agere Systems drivers for their Modems, AC'97 included, as well as others to maybe lie to the modem and make it use them anyway, to at least see if the modem might function on them, but the system flat out refused to even try to use them on WindowsXP Pro. If anyone has the ability to extract the modem drivers for this model of computer, or better, for this model of Modem, from the service discs for the M2350 notebook, I would be highly appreciative. I am also willing to try to do .vxd or .sys file changes if need be to try to trick the modem into using other versions of the company or chipset drivers if anyone has any more advanced advice, but don't go so far as to ask me to write code or anything lol
My email is email@example.com or my AIM is Fayruyan, and I am welcome to any information or advice or clues as to get this funky modem working on this eMachine. Thanks in advance to any replies
The person I am working on this machine for has called them and they said that they will send them the service discs, that SHOULD have been provided for the person at the time of purchase of the computer, but apparently they don't think this is an important thing to have. When I maintain a computer for someone or build them one, I always and deliberatley make certain I have a little package of all discs for the OS, any important files, and a copy of most or all pieces of software that I installed, so they have back ups and everything needed to get the computer running again after format. This is standard good practice you would think hehe, but apparently these big companies that sell these things don't really agree.
Now the owner of the M2350 has to spend twenty dollars on 'shipping and handeling' to get the 'free' service discs from eMachines. Clever, but just the way it is. And get this; Best Buy offered to 'fix' her computer for 450 bucks! And they wouldn't even try to fix the error, which was a corrupted OS install and my attempts to repair and backdoor replace the ntldr and such failed; they wouldn't do this, all they said is get the Service Discs and we will repair it, for almost 500! Insane, just insane. All they would do for that money is put in repair discs, click next a bunch of times, and then say here, take the machine back, pay me. Baztards...pardon my language, but really, it is such a scam. Granted hunting down the drivers as I am doing is much, much more difficult and they don't have the time, but even then, this is a repair, not paying hundreds of dollars for something that involves nothing more than tossing in service discs that any person can read a three-step instruction scrap of paper and follow.
Regardless, yeah, eMachine support isn't the greatest. You get what you pay for, right? I am still going to keep looking for these Modem drivers and hopefully find one that will function because the person I am fixing this for uses dial-up still, not broadband, so it isn't an option to leave it unfunctioning. Thanks for the reply!
Okay, I got a hold of the Service Disks for the M2350 eMachines notebook computer. These little guys were not that easy to get, but I got them. The driver for the modem is indeed an Agere chip set, but the card itself is a SmartLink. The driver worked perfectly in this particular M2350 and now the modem runs. I have uploaded the drivers for the Modem, the Ethernet/NIC adapter, and the audio for the M2350 over at www.driverguide.com and they should be up in their data base soon. If anyone needs these drivers for this model computer, check there at driverguide or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org for information on them or to get them uploaded to you, as I will store them for a little while.
Also, no promises on these drivers working on Linux, but they might, so feel free to try. Also search Linux version drivers for this model of eMachines notebook under: Broadcom for the LAN, Analog Systems for the Audio, ATI Mobile Radeon for the video, and SmartLink for the modem. Good luck all!

[br]If you call emachines, they should have a disc for you for free!!
Anyone who needs the recovery disks for the M2350, I've got them and am willing to upload to a file sharing site if there are enough people who need them. Email me at ChibiChula(at)gmail.com to request.
And please, if anyone knows anyone willing to share the driver disk for the M2105, can you help me out?
EDIT 06/15: I got a torrent going for the three recovery disks. So anyone who needs the recovery disks for the M2350, I'll try to seed these files as long as possible for you all.
EDIT 6/18: I'll be seeding the torrent for the M2350 recovery disks all weekend then giving my computer a break for the rest of the week. Grab them while you can because it's unlikely that I'll be seeding this file again until the next weekend.
EDIT 7/19: I am no longer mantaining the torrent for the M2350 recovery disks. I'm simply unable to continue leaving my computer on for days at a time in extremely hot weather inside a room with no air conditioning. That's practically asking for my computer to die. I'll try to find alternate methods to help people get the recovery disks but I'm not sure what else I can do. If anyone can think of something to help, please send me an email. At the moment all I can do is provide the file for the third recovery disk which contains all the driver files. That should be more than enough help, I think. Please email me for information on how to get that file since I don't want to post the link to it anywhere on the web. Sorry for any inconvenience.
