Re: DIY ViDock Experiences
Hi Mayklic, i turned the GMA hd card back on but it hasnt sorted the problem.
To break things down :
when i removed the express card slot from my laptop the laptop screen is in use and the GMA HD graphics are under " display" in the device manager". Also the nvidia control panel is no longer available when right clicking the desktop. Then when i connect the express card slot and turn the psu on the laptop doesnt pick up the gtx460. The fan on the gtx460 spins up really fast aswell. Its only when i restart the laptop that the gtx460 is utlized and i view my desktop from my external hdtv. I can also manipulate the nvidia control panel when using my hdtv.
Hope that makes sense

Re: DIY ViDock Experiences
You did the right thing on first setup by allowing windows 7 do everything.
i tried to mimic your problem but can't because my psu stayed on.
your problem is with the stress the video card is taking.
Windows Experience Index will trying to stress your computer to get accurate measures. I know when I stress my vidock over its limit, Everything shuts down. WEI will certainly stress it but gives error if there's possible shut down. For games they tend to visually say "you cant run me." Overlyclocked my video card without knowing the limit shuts it down.
can you show what hardware you're using like did you include a SWEX switch or used paper clip?
The questions below could possible have nothing to do with your card being stressed. I would like to know anyways.
i am guessing when you turn on your computer with vidock connect, the boot is slow?
do you always connect vidock then power on the vidock? should be turn on vidock then connect EC card.
What driver are you using? the stable 266.58, beta 270.51, any of them have Optimus?

Re: DIY ViDock Experiences
Yes awesome. you have pci-e 2.0 x1 which is nice. Now you need a PC card or mPCIe, which ever you are using, to plug in and see which slot it takes. If it takes and windows reads the card as what it suppose to be, there's nothing else to worry about. With empty slots, i believe you dont even need to mess with setup 1.x unless Nando says you can achieve 4x.

Re: DIY ViDock Experiences
Hey, i managed to get modern warfare 2 to run for a good 20 minutes without crashing. I removed the jumper from the PE4H (PCIe passive adapter Ver2.4) x1 and it seems to have helped.
Just incase i've been unclear i havent got a vidock station its one of these i used :
PE4H (PCIe passive adapter Ver2.4) x1 (uses a swex)
PE4H (PCIe passive adapter ver2.4)
The game is running quite good but the fps arent great.
The driver im using was just the latest driver on the nvidia website - 266.58 WHQL.
Thanks again.

Re: DIY ViDock Experiences
It sounds to me like your PSU is too weak. To test it out, use msi afterburner to lower your voltage and clocks. Try to go as low as possible. You should be able to halve your power draw by doing this. If everything works fine or the problem isn't as bad, then your problem is the PSU. If you still have the same problem then I doubt it's the PSU, but it still might be.

Re: DIY ViDock Experiences
Thanks for the suggestion, i did consider this earlier today. The psu im using was previously used in a watercooled system and ran 8 120mm fans, a nzxt fan controller, 500gb hd, dvd writer and 2 pumps flawlessy and never generated any great amount of heat. Ive also checked the psu under load with a multimeter and under load the 3.3v/5v/12v were all within acceptable parameters.
As far as i can see now though, its now running after removing the jumper. What i was looking to do next if my laptop allows me is to bump up from x1 to x2. Could you advise how this is done?
thanks

Re: DIY ViDock Experiences
if you cant bump 1x to 2x, add optimus to the driver to have both the vidock and integrated gpu working together.
