If the fan is spinning at 100% real loud there is no "connection" between the card and the laptop.
Did you try turning on the laptop with the card connected (it should get detected as BIOS boots and the fan slows down) or do you plug it in each time in windows?
run atiflash -i in dos and see if it detects the card.
    Laptop: Inspiron 1505, 1.66 Core Duo, 3GB RAM, external XFX Radeon 5750 1GB + PE4L, 23" 1920x1080

I did try booting up with it connected, in which case it would normally error on me, but the fan didn't slow down and I booted into Windows without an issue (card not detected). Normally, though, yes I do just plug it in and I can change my display to be the external. What are the chances the issue is in a faulty PE4L or even my video card?

I haven't used ATIflash before, but I'll give it a try.

Edit: forgot to mention, it doesn't spin loudly when the Expresscard adapter isn't plugged into my laptop (it spins at a normal speed)

DIY ViDock on acer 5920 anyone? I am planning to set up the DIY ViDock on my wife's acer 5920 (C2D - T5450, 2GB DDR2, Intel GMA, expresscard, Vista). Would be nice to know if any one has already set up DIY ViDock. Especially if there are any issues related to Vista.

    Thanks

    Gidday

I have an Asus F8-Sg and wish to use the DYI ViDock with an HD 5770, my current video card being a 9300M G.

I know that I have a free ExpressCard slot, but just in case attached is an image showing my free PCI-E slots and memory allocations:

Knowing the above, do you think my laptop supports this modification?

    Cheers Anton

@ANTALIFE yup you should be able to set up the vidock. By the way what port is your express card, If it is port 1 then you could possibly combine it with port 2 (if you remove the wireless card) to do a x2

best way is to plug something in it. By the way how many mini pcie slots do you have?. If you have two then try plugging your current wireless card into the other one to see which slot it takes up. That will eliminate one of the slots so you can guess which one is the express card slot if you do not have anything to test the express card slot with.

    Hi.

I can't really find an expresscard to use.

Can anyone figure out what my ports are from these?
