dell d620 screen?
i'm just wondering if dell has addressed the issue regarding the screen for the d620 yet.. it seems great all around for me to run my business and for school, but the massive complaints about the lcd screen makes me worry
and btw is the quadro really that bad for any sort of gaming? (not high end gaming... more like old school games)
thanks guys

Re: dell d620 screen?
quadro hardware is the pretty much same as the gforce hardware, the memory is usally a little slower, as its made for accuracy in rendering, not speed, the primary difference is the drivers, with the latest release of cards I've heard that there is little difference in gaming performance, check the gaming forum, and also some nvidia forums such as NVnews

Re: dell d620 screen?
Quadro NVS 110M is slow by today’s standards. However it should be able to run 3D games that came out a couple of years ago, maybe even new RTS type games. It’s performance is on par with a Radeon X1300 and slightly slower than a GeForce Go 7400. It is not all that bad.
Specs and some benchmarks .

I think what he is worried about is the graininess...

Re: dell d620 screen?
I know nothing about the d620 screen that I can backup, so I'm not touching it, the card I can deal with a bit
from my experience, an e1505 with an x1300, and an m1210 with a 7400, the 7400 is twice the card if not a bit more, and not just in benchmarks, it smokes the 1300 with everything I've thrown at it, its truely impressive for a 64 meg cardGateway LT3103u netbook~1.2ghz AMD Athlon 64 L110~ATI Radeon X1270~2GB ram~250GB HD~11.6" LED 1366x768 screen

Re: dell d620 screen?
Graininess is something I don't quite understand, no-one actually explaining it to me successfully in the form of pictures. Got a link? My D620's display is perfectly usable. It's not the 'glossy' type but it's more practical. It's a very durable laptop and given that feature, it's also very portable. If you want something that's actually ready for use on the road, I can recommend it very highly.

Re: dell d620 screen?
The D620 with the Quadro plays World of Warcraft just fine, I usually get around 30fps even in Orgimar (Capital City).
The screen is bleh compared to my Truelife 9300 but I don't have to worry about the glare I get from my 9300.
The D620 could be a bit brighter but will work in most environments.Inspiron 9300 1.73ghz, MCE, 2gig, 100g 5400 HDD, 256meg Go6800, 8X DVD DL , 17" WUXA Truelife, 2200 B/G w/BT. 3 Year Onsite $1400 Net Total. 12/21/05; Latitude D620 (Outlet) 1.83ghz CD, XP Pro, 1 gig, 120g 5400 HDD, 256MB NVIDIA Quadro, 24X CD RW/DVD, 14.1 WXGA, 1390 Wifi, 3 Year Complete Care, $998 Net Total. 11/15/06

Re: dell d620 screen?
There were issues with the screen earlier in production, I don't know what the status is now, but you must remember that it's kinda the luck of the draw. ALso, for every angry, outraged user who posts on the internet, there are many others who don't and are happy with their purchases. Dell has a fairly liberal return policy--If you like the computer in all other respects go ahead and purchase it, if there is an issue in my experience Dell is relatively quick to repair/exchange/return.
