### Help needed reg my laptop SCREEN and HDD size
Hi all,
I recently bought a DELL 6400 laptop.
core2duo
2GB , 120 HDD
ati raedon 256 MB x1400
Ultra WSXGA+ true life colors 1680x1050 resolution.
( Many of you guys knows this already )
Just yday I got my hands to install n check on it.
Everything seems to be fine except two things.
1) Any images/pictures on my screen appears with lil fish eye kind.
The images are not crisp n sharp.Checking my display properties
I see it is set to high resolution 1680x1050.
Infact the images on my browser appears more like that.
Didnt check real pics yet.For example the edges are not smooth.
They look like a line as if drawn in MS paint...!
Why is this like that...?
2)My HDD supposed to be 120GB.
But it shows as 105GB including the mem req for the diff s/w and OS.
Checking with DELL they said, infact 120HDD dosent show complete
120GB but has some memory for backup purpose when the disk fails.
I understand this but atleast not 15GB of space right ...
Problem is more with the images on the screen.
Panic struck...!!

Re: ### Help needed reg my laptop SCREEN and HDD size
the harddrive i can help you with, you lose 12 gigs for the dell restore partition 2 gigs for media direct 47 meg for dell diagnostics the rest you lose when windows formats
as far as the screen clarity depends on the manufacturer of the lcd be it au optronics, samsung or lg/phillips (listed imho from worst to best) the screenshot on your post doesnt show any problems was it a photo or a screen capture?
a photo will show problems a capture will not if you are not satisfied with your lcd call dell tech support they will replace it with another lcd

I think you should use a digital camera and take a picture of your screen. Your screen shot will give us a clear picture not the picture you described. Contact Dell about this issue.

Is the problem only visible with internet browser? check some real photos using an image viewer application like PaintBrush. Can you see the same jagged edges (distortions) on your wallpaper ?

Re: ### Help needed reg my laptop SCREEN and HDD size
i think its the quickset settings. if you go to quickset and go to display settings, check to see if "normal" is selected.
you might also want to go to properties -> settings -> general and check that the dpi setting is at normal size.

Re: ### Help needed reg my laptop SCREEN and HDD size
NFS car appears that way because you are in a low resolution, change to a higher resolution and maybe turn on Anti aliasing to make things even better.
If its only inside browser, then the problem is not with your display. Did you install some sort of an image plug-in for the browser? Also make sure that browser zoom level is at 100%. If you can’t figure out the problem then upgrade to IE 7 or use FireFox.

Re: ### Help needed reg my laptop SCREEN and HDD size
After seeing more information in this thread, I think what I PM'ed you is closer to the answer to your question.
It's probably just the screen itself. I remember a similar issue with the e1705 WUXGA I had before.COMPAL HEL80 (PowerPro L 8:15)
