Re: ***Format & Reinstall of XP Questions (PLEASE POST ALL FORMAT QUESTIONS HERE)***
MSB-I'm not encouraging you to do this, but I did. I installed the pro Wireless tools and let windows manage the wireless connection. I've had much better luck with the built-in windows wireless tools.

Re: ***Format & Reinstall of XP Questions (PLEASE POST ALL FORMAT QUESTIONS HERE)***
Hello,
I followed your guide to the letter and everything is working fine .... except for MediaDirect. I booted from the driver CD and did the whole
Type cd\MD2 and press enter
Type Repair and press enter
Select OK and press Enter
thing and I thought everything was okay. However, when I press the MediaDirect button nothing happens. Also, does this have anything to do with Standby and Hibernate? These options are no longer in the "Turn Off Computer" menu. Thanks...

Re: ***Format & Reinstall of XP Questions (PLEASE POST ALL FORMAT QUESTIONS HERE)***
the problem is the windows one says it cannot manage the wireless networks, it actually says something like "if you have another wireless controller, use that". However, I'm certain that both were capable of detecting networks before I reformatted.

For the media Direct problem, you must have Dell's Quickset installed. You can download this from support.dell.com on the Driver's & Download page under Applications.

right click on the satellite icon in your task bar, and select "Use MS Client". If you intel is running, MS can't manage your wireless networks.

1 down 1 to go:
2. I noticed that my nVidia control panel is missing its ability to monitor the GPU temperature after reformatting and reinstalling Dell's driver for the 7900 GS.
How do I get that back?

Re: ***Format & Reinstall of XP Questions (PLEASE POST ALL FORMAT QUESTIONS HERE)***
Please help me. I've just reformatted my dell6400. Few problems occured:
1. My bluetooth cant be detected anymore after i installed the driver from dell website. Right after i reformatted, the bluetooth icon was in the systemtray. (i installed the dell wireless 350 bluetooth internal module driver). it dissappeared right i after i install the driver. how to make it function again?
(edit - bluetooth problem is solved - i uninstalled the driver n it's back to normal again
)
2. before i reformatted, i had 4 partitions. i deleted the third partition, hence the unpartitioned size increased. later, i decided to make it into a new partition.. which was named as drive E. how can i merge this drive E into drive C? n if i cant merge it into drive C, what can i do with it?
3.i receive this error when i wanted to download for windows security updates n windows defender from microsoft website: "Files required to use Microsoft Update are no longer registered or installed on your computer". Before i reformatted my harddisk, i can download windows defender and windows security updates easily from microsoft.
thnks very much for your help.Last edited by ardearl; 17th June 2006 at 10:27 AM.

Re: ***Format & Reinstall of XP Questions (PLEASE POST ALL FORMAT QUESTIONS HERE)***
Hi,
I have Dell Inspiron E1405 notebook. I had to partition my hard disk, which resulted in formatting the disk. After installing Windows XP, I installed Media Direct software through the CD, which I had asked from Dell. Also created a partition of 4GB for it. The Media direct software got installed properly, but when pressed the Media Direct button, it gave an error message "System32>Hal.dll missing/corrupt. Reinstall the software or restart the computer". I tried fixing the problem by using the Dell MediaDirect Repair Utility given on the Dell website ( drivers and downloads). But I am still getting the same error message.
Does anyone have an idea how to solve this problem?
Also can anyone let me know the part number (or version number) of DELL Media Direct cd for E1405?
Please help.

On mine I found that older\stock drivers did not have the GPU temp function and newer ones do. I'm currently on 91-28 and both the "simplified" control panel and the detailed Display settings have the temp. Are you right-clicking Tray Icon, clicking Laptop Display, and thus opening detailed settings? Did you have newer drivers before you reinstalled?
