Re: Windows 7 upgrade disks from Dell
Spent sometime last night looking into this...
Turns out what we will be getting looks like it might just be the same iso image (with no keys or stickers etc) thats "preactivated" image from dell.
See this link:
http://www.blogsolute.com/2009/09/wi...ted-leaks.html
I did try and find the download mentioned above but failed.
Bit annoying that dell couldnt just give us a download link of the ISO and we have to wait two weeks (plus a postal strike in the uk) to receive the disk.
Please feel free for anyone to post a note on here when they receive theirs and comment on what they actually receive.
Thanks!
Mark
EDIT: There is talk of there being a key printed on the sleve of the disk - I suspect that if there is a key on the sleve of the disk that its definalty not the key thats used in the preactivated image thats on the disk (wink wink
)

Re: Windows 7 upgrade disks from Dell
UPDATE - Just logged onto the upgrade site:
http://win7.dell.com/
And i was now able to pay the £15 P+P for my order and it now says my order says "Processing" - theres no date listed under "Estimated Ship Date" yet....
Just a shame it says "Windows 7 Home Premium® 32bit English"

Re: Windows 7 upgrade disks from Dell
I'm downloading the Win 7 professional version right now, got it for $29.95 online with college ID. Not sure whether to partition my existing harddrive and have both Vista and Win 7 or to just overwrite everything. Unfortunately, I ordered my XPS with Vista Home edition which does not allow an upgrade to Win PRO without a clean install. I have a free Win 7 home coming, but I need the extra functionailty of Win 7 Pro. Have to reinstall all my programs, that's the pain in the butt. Might leave Vista for now and run them both, then take my time reinstalling leaving Vista operational.
