Yeah we'll see how that new SL9600 performs that they're putting in these new Desires.

I'm assuming it transfers both audio and video. Displayport and HDMI both tranfer audio and video, so it would make sense.

Here is a great source for cables at super cheap prices. Maybe you already know about them. Excellent quality and have never been disappointed with anything from them!

There is an interesting note on their DP --> HDMI cable:

Note: While DisplayPort connectors are capable of passing an HDMI signal, DisplayPort and HDMI signals are basically different and not compatible with each other. In order for this cable to function properly, you must have a DisplayPort source device capable of producing and passing out an HDMI signal through the DisplayPort jack.

I wonder if the DP port on the Adamo passes out an HDMI source???

Actually, I think I have a DP --> HDMI cable I got from monoprice...I'll give it a try and let you guys know if it works!

Yep monoprice is always where I go for my cable needs

I am hopeful this will work but that is an odd and broad disclaimer

I think they just mean there isn't a magical converter inside the cable. DP and HDMI are two different standards. Apparently, DP is able to transmit HDMI compatible signals, but it's not mandatory.

So, they say that their cable only works if the source is already sending out HDMI on the DP port.

Just decided to forgo the outlet/refurb route and got a brand new onyx 1.2, 128gb, 2GB RAM version for 1299 brand new from amazon. Had it for 5 days. Thanks much for the earlier trick on how to get the windows 7 drivers. I put windows 7 on it right away. Only drivers I installed was the keyboard one and the quickset one. Others seemed to have installed by themselves. I installed a synaptics touchpad from the synaptics site--the dell one is older--any reason to install it or any other drivers from dell. Please advise if you have thoughts on what drivers need installing that may not have installed automatically with windows 7 clean install.

Congratulations on your Adamo! That's a pretty good price from Amazon...I only went the Outlet route because there was an additional 15% off coupon I used which made a substantial discount, plus, the latest Adamo I got at the outlet had the 25GB SSD instead of the 128GB, but at the 128GB price!!

In any case, can you tell us what the driver version number is for the Synaptics touchpad driver you got? Thanks!

Hey lancorp what score do you get in wei for your hdd, I am stuck at 5.9 like some others and I thought maybe it was AHCI but it was already enabled

EDIT: Also have you tried using quick boot option in the bios? is there any downside to using that?
I opted not to turn it on since I boot in about 30 seconds as is

    Hi everyone,

I am just an average guy that is considering buying the adamo. Another laptop I am considering is the samsung xp360 and mainly for its battery life. I have read almost every post in this forum and am kind of dizzy now so I figured I'd just post my question. I dont need the laptop for anything else but internet, excel, word and maybe occasionly watching a movie. My main concern is battery life, and yes I have read many posts about this but mainly its regarding heavy duty work. How is the battery going to hang on for the simple stuff I do. I must mention that I do travel often and would like to enjoy bringing it instead of being (*U^*(U^)U by it . Does the broadband work well? any experiences on that? Of course I understand that this wil depend on the provider etc but just in general.

Thanks for any feedback in advance and all the posts I read certainly help guys like me decide what to do.

lancorp--sorry I was off-line for a day or two. The synaptics driver that I got from their site is version 14.0.3.0. When I tried to install the one on the dell site it said the one I had was newer. I only installed it because I did not know the trick for getting windows 7 drivers till later. Now I am wondering if I should uninstall what I have and get the one from the dell site. Using this one, I had to disable almost all features otherwise I was getting lags and unwanted behavior. I am not a trackpad person (like the knobs) though and that might be part of problem. Any advice?

OR---I use my laptop for basic tasks just like you. I am get 3-3:30 hours (usually the full 3 1/2) with wifi on the whole time and screen down about half way. I personally like the slimline adapter because it is easier to carry. That was what made me go ahead despite the battery life.

I wanted something that felt a bit special and I wanted a great keyboard and was willing to pay a bit more (1300 for a brand new one--see prior post) and sacrifice some higher specs because I felt I really did not need them. I am satisfied for sure but I am still in the "less than two weeks crush period".
