    Default Maximum Resolution..?

I have Vostro 1500. I also have the 8600M GT 256M video card. Recently I bought a externall 22'. When I don't have the external plugged, maximum resolution is 1280 by 800.

I could swear I had it at 1440 by 900 before I started pluggin in the external monitor. Am mistaken in that maximum has always being 1280 by 800 or has the external caused problems with my resolution? If so how do I correct it?

Thx, also i have vista ultimate.

15.4 inch Widescreen WXGA LCD. I don't have order in front of me, but this sounds familiar. I may have gotten also thu the 15.4 inch Widescreen WXGA+ LCD.

    Does that make resolution differnce?

Yes it does. WXGA is 1280x800 where as WXGA+ is 1440x900.

What screen resolution is SXGA+? Dell's website doesn't list the resolutions for the display. I bought a T60 last year and made the mistake of ordering the WUXGA+ from Lenovo. Man was that a HUGE mistake everything is tiny. It looks great in Vista at that resolution but I have to put on my glasses to see the screen, LOL.

The Vostro 1500 I ordered came with the standard display 1280x800. It looks fine. I don't know how much smaller 1400x900 would be on a 15.4" screen? It doesn't sound like a huge jump from 1280x800 rez.

    WSXGA+ is 1680x1050

If you have the 1920x1200, try reducing the resolution and see if the text is easier to read for you.

The resolution changes depending on the Display. If your display is lower than your native, your laptop display knocks down to match it.

Ive got 1440x900 and when I plug it into the tv via vga the resoultion on the the laptop changes, theres probably a way to keep it set to 1440x900 in the nvidia control panel but seeing how i very rarely use external monitor i cant be bothered to look.

But plugging into the tv changes the res to 1280x800 and then when you unplug it you have to change back to 1440x900 thats if the display supports it.

Right click on desktop, personalize, display settings at the bottom of the box then change the res from there.

If you set it to extend your desktop it will keep the resolutions. If you say mirror it will use what ever is smaller.
