Default where is the "lid-close" trigger on the e1505

I've been having random assorted issues that I feel have to do with whether my computer is properly sensing that my lid is closed (in Ubuntu nothing happened, in XP it changes my resolution but doesn't make the screen black).

I guess any responses to any of the following questions would be appreciated...

    1. It seems that to trigger the "black screen on lid close" function in Windows, two (or more) things need to happen: (a) the computer senses that the lid is closed (b) XP recognizes that signal from the computer and makes the screen black. I think there might be something wrong with one of these... any ideas on how to test them?

    2. When I took off my keyboard to try and fix the ribbon cable to my screen (didn't work so well... but that's another story) I saw some sort of little white depressable button next to the indicator lights on the screen hinge. Is that the way the laptop senses whether the lid is closed or not? If not, where is it?

O.o - the forum tells me You last visited: 11-26-2007 at 11:51 PM. I feel kind of nostalgic...

    Thanks...

The trigger is in fact the little white button next to the indicator lights as you say.

For this to work though, you need to have dell drivers cause the generic driver doesn't send the "shut down screen" signal when the lid is closed.

Oh and since Ubuntu 7.10 my screen shuts off when i close the lid (i have an Nvidia card though, don't know if it works on Ati)

dell drivers for... the video card? I think I went through all of their drivers and installed the ones that seemed relevant, including the vid card ones.

    thanks a lot.
