Re: Sleep Mode DISASTER!, w/ PC-Cillin
PC-cillin has an update for a problem with SP1.
It's one of the links on this page.
Unfortunately it only seems to be for regular versions, and not for the Dell version. There's another update for Dell, which updates to version 14.6, but it doesn't say it's specifically for SP1 problems.
I tried the hotfix and though I'd hosed my computer. There was no kind of progress bar or any kind of indicator to let you know anything was happening. I let it sit for a while. Nothing appeared to be happening. No discernible hard drive activity. Nothing would work. Task Manager wouldn't work. I couldn't load any programs, though I could open My Computer and browse my hard drive. My Internet connection was gone. I tried rebooting. It wouldn't respond. After a while there seemed to be a flurry of hard drive activity so I let it sit. Then nothing. Nothing. Couldn't reboot from the start button. I eventually stopped it by holding down the power button, and after it started up again it seemed OK. I'm not sure if it updated anything at all. But if I get any more of those warnings about Trend being incompatible with my version of Vista, Trend is history.

Re: Sleep Mode DISASTER!, w/ PC-Cillin
I kind of hate getting rid of something that I "paid for" however i think the warranty in it self is worth the money.
I also agree though if i get one more of those messages i am going to contact Tend Micros and ask them whats going on with it, and then i will just download a freeware antivirus, such as Avast or AVG.Inspiron 1720
Intel Core 2 Duo T9300(2.5GHz, 800Mhz, 6M L2 Cache)

Re: Sleep Mode DISASTER!, w/ PC-Cillin
I know what you mean.........
I was a Beta tester for Trend Micro/PC Cillin Int. Sec 2006/07/08
I used to like the program for it's aggressive and great protection. But then they started adding unnecessary features like everyone else, going for the all-in-one product. Started telling me tracking cookies were spyware..It started blocking web pages I wanted to visit because it felt they were unsafe for me-well I felt that was my decision, and that feature is difficult to bypass- you have to manually enter EACH blocked webpage into an "allowed list" to be able to go it it. That or you have to turn off your protection. I finally sent them a nasty gram, uninstalled the beta and went w/ another product.
Since all major ISP's have AV/Spyware programs built in their mail servers, it's very unlikely that you're going to get a virus via email. They also remove any attachments that have .exe, .inf, extensions- that could execute and hose your system when clicked on. Also yahoo, hotmail, GMail, etc, have this also. And third party software like Outlook, Eudora, Bat,etc., all block suspicious file attachments also.
So what I basically do now is I use a very good AV product/Firewall. When I download a suspicious file, I just right click and scan it with the AV......
I haven't gotten a real virus in a long, long time............
