What programs to keep?
My Dell inspiron 6000 came with XP home and I needed XP Pro (not the upgrade) and bought that seperatly (didn't know I needed it for school untill after I baught it). I leave for college next friday, so asking for the CD"s of the programs might not be an option. Now what programs do I want to keep? Also how do I burn these allready installed programs? Just copy the entire installed file onto a CD? Thanks for all the answers.

Re: What programs to keep?
I can't think of any programs that would be on your system now, that you won't get on the CDs. Dell puts alot of junk software on there that is pretty much just trial ware and not useful at all, but you'll get that on a cd. All of the dell software like Dell Media Experience, Dell QuickSet, etc will either be on the CD or on the web. The only ones that normally are missed when you reformat is CyberLink PowerDvD and Sonic RecordNow.Dell could forward them to your college. You should be able to change the address on your account.

Re: What programs to keep?
They send everything to my dad's work, we bought the Dell from employee purchase program, they woudln't even send the computer to our house. So pretnding I can't get the CD's (but I will try) How do I go about burning these programs to a CD, just copy the while file in there, and then just use the install icon on my new comp to install them?

Re: What programs to keep?
well you could always have them shipped to your dad's office, then he can ship them to you.
If you have the setup/install icon, then you should be able to copy the whole folder (just to make sure you have everything) and burn it. Then use the setup.ext file to install it on the new system. On mine, i don't have an install icon in the folder, but it is on the cd.
