Can the M1530's 8400 GS be upgraded?
Can the card be removed and replaced with the 8600 GT if i find a M1530 at a suitable discount?
The older Laptops had a physical daughter board which could be removed and changed.

Re: Can the M1530's 8400 GS be upgraded?
Im pretty sure the gfx card has a reverse MXM interface. Meaning it could possibly be upgraded, but only with Dell's proprietary card, and at a price. Search for the part on Dell's website.

Yes they can be upgraded as Havoc531 has stated, probably only to the options available on said model tho.
I have looked on the 'Dell Parts' website however, and nowhere can i find a graphics card for sale
Anyone know where to source 1 ?

You will need to contact Dell to buy them separately, or check on eBay.

Re: Can the M1530's 8400 GS be upgraded?
I asked and Dell WOULD NOT allow me to upgrade it. They gave me a lame line.."the graphics card is actually soldered to the motherboard"
I laughed and asked for someone else...but even that person stated right now you can't order the graphics card alone.
Good luck attempting to get it though.

It can't be changed.

All the changable/replacable parts are listed in their service manuals. I went through this issue with my m1530 and ended up having to buy a second one.

That is correct ONLY the 1520's have removable video cards, The 1530 and 1330 have are integrated into the motherboard. If you video card goes and you call dell you are getting a whole new motherboard replaced.
