Default LAT D430: MEDIABASE vs D/PORT ADVANCED PORT REPLICATOR, D-BAY

I am just configuring a Lat D430 online on Dell's website.

    1. I realized the if I was to add a mediabase to my customization, the cd-dvd burner is included. Other than that, is the mediabase and the d/port advanced port replicator pretty much the same thing in terms of transforming the laptop into a desktop at home?

    2. What exactly is a CD/DVD burner with D-Bay? I know what the burner is but just don't know what this D-Bay is? Does it mean inserting the burner into a slot in the laptop?

    1. The mediabase thing snap to the bottom of the D430 and give it extra height. The port replicator sit at the back. I think the replicator got more of other things like DVI and it is cheaper.

    2. Not sure what you are asking here. Mine came with a external CD and it use up two USB port, one for the power.

Go to ebay and search for "d430 media" and you can see it. I save me 1/3 the $ getting the refurbished.

From the look of this page, its a bare drive that is sloted into an external casing and it connect to the USB port.
