Re: Grainy Samsung WSXGA+ replaced with LG = Perfect!
After several emails, a couple of phone calls and two screen replacements (all three screens have been grainy SEC3350s), I have convinced Dell Latin America to ship me an XK309 kit, which is supposed to include the LPLF300 screen.
XK309 LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY, 15.4WSXGA+, VIDEO ELEC. STDS. ASSOC., TLF, LGP 1
However, the escalations manager tells me that while they are willing to ship out the part, he does not know whether the XK309 is a whole screen replacement kit or just part of it, since it isn't listed as a kit or part of a kit for my system (this is what he said).
I guess I will ask him to send it out as it is my only chance so far, even though he says I will have to wait 15-20 days for it to be shipped to my country (Dominican Republic) all the way from Austin, TX.
My reasoning is that even if this part number only refers to "part of the kit", it HAS to include the screen, at the least. The rest of the kit is probably just screws and the LCD cable, which I have seen arrive in the same box when my screen was replaced before. All I really need is the screen anyway, it should be a matter of just putting one in place for the other.
That is, unless the cable I am currently using for my Samsung screen is incompatible with the LCD cable for the LG screen... has anyone seen the connectors on LG screens vs. Samsungs? Are they physically different? I doubt it, but I guess there is a chance each screen has a different proprietary connector. If the replacement I get does not include the cable and the connectors are different, that would be very bad.Inspiron 1520 Jet Black / T7500 2.2GHz C2D / 2GB / 256MB 8600GT / webcam / bluetooth / 160GB 7200RPM / DVD-RW / WSXGA+ 1680x1050 TL, LPLF300 / 9-cell battery

Re: Grainy Samsung WSXGA+ replaced with LG = Perfect!
I just ordered a 1520 with 1680x1050 screen - is that WSXGA+? Can anyone tell me the manuf and Dell part numbers for the LG screens of that spec - is it LPLF300/XK309 as well (as the 1440x900)? I want to call and make sure I am getting the LG screen to avoid any issues.

Re: Grainy Samsung WSXGA+ replaced with LG = Perfect!
I have the grainy screen/small viewing angle issue with my dell and called in to tech support a few days ago to get it fixed, (my laptop is from dell outlet).
I just recieved my "return" box from dell. But I was kinda looking forward to using my laptop on thanksgiving holidays all next week. Should I return it right away or wait til after thanksgiving?TheDon

Re: Grainy Samsung WSXGA+ replaced with LG = Perfect!
ffs, i call tech support, request change in screen, he dont know is grainy, i have to explain, then ask me to plug in external monitor and test then go safe mode then want me to do pc restore.? He doestn even know about the AUO SEC LPLF issue! Is this normal? I am in malaysia. I ask him why does he think its a software issue, he keeps on talking crap, oh damn.. ****.
EDIT : not only that, i have to teach him how to go to check hardware id, and its like i am the technical support guy instead...
he say he never heard of the grainy issue... i have to guide him to dell community forums and read what micheal dell post about the lcd thing. I was gonna ask him if he's new. In the end i could not stand it, i asked " is this dell technical support side?", which he say yes and i thought i called the wrong number.Last edited by onizukaeikichi; 15th November 2007 at 12:31 AM.

Re: Grainy Samsung WSXGA+ replaced with LG = Perfect!
Got my vostro today, it's fantastic but I have a grainy screen. So, I contacted tech support and I was only on the phone for 10 mins in total. She said that a technician would contact me soon or on Monday to arrange a time to replace my screen with an LG Phillips. She guaranteed I would indeed be getting an LGP. Will let you know how I go!

Re: Grainy Samsung WSXGA+ replaced with LG = Perfect!
That's nice. I just got my 1720 with a grainy screen and called support. After updating my video drivers to no avail, I was able to convince the tech that it was a hardware problem, but he refused to send out a LG screen because his system would not allow him to change part numbers. I asked to speak to a supervisor who told me I should just return the Inspiron and get another one. Nice, huh? Not sure what my next steps will be, but I am heading over to Fry's during lunch to see what other 17" notebooks there are out there that I could buy instead of the Dell. I hear that HP and ASUS have nice screens.
