Re: ->The official POST ABOUT YOUR NEW DELL NOTEBOOK thread.<-
Got my E1705 yesterday and I love it... the display, especially considering I was used to my old 15" CRT, is amazing. Runs like a dream...
Only thing is my case I bought doesn't fit... said it was for 17" notebooks, but this thing is a little too massive. I love it though, glad I went for the 17 over the 15Danielle

Just ordered an E1705
After waiting a very long time and debating other models, I finally ordered my E1705. I was looking at a Gateway NX860XL and even tried to see if I can greater discount when they saw the below configuration but they would have charged just over $2K. Only difference was the gateway is upgradeable to 4gigs, which I don't see myself doing, 7200RPM HD, 667mhz RAM. I read all the threads and I don't believe I was going to see a great benefit.
Inspiron E1705, Intel Core 2 Duo processor T7200 (4MB/2.00GHz/667MHz)
17 inch UltraSharp TrueLife Wide-screen WUXGA,
2 GB, DDR2, 533MHz 2 Dimm,
256MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GS,
120GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
8X DVD+/-RW Drive, for Inspiron 9400/E1705
Intel PRO/Wireless 3945 802.11a/g Mini Card (54Mbps)
Trend Micro PC-cillin InternetSecurity, English, 2-Year Subscription
80 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
Module,Case,Carrying,Nylon Backpack
3 Year Limited Warranty At Home On-site
Dell Wireless 355 Bluetooth Module (2.0 + EDR)
For $1762.92 excluding shipping and taxes.
This is including a 20% off EPP and I got an additional 10% off with a Military Advantage Card. Didn't really want the Trend Micro Internet Security suite but this was the cheapest configuration I could find. Dell also bumped me up to Next Day Shipping for free. What do you guys think of the deal.

Re: Just ordered an E1705
Did you try the regular consumer models with the 25% coupon?
Using the 30% coupon, I got the lappy in my sig for $1250 and it seems like the E1705 was arond $1500.
To some degree I wish I had gotten the E1705, but, still, you're right, for under $2000 it's a good buy. Most other brands get well over $2000 when you put a decent video card in them.Current: 15" MacBook Pro C2D 2.4GHz Penryn 1440x900 LED 4GB 320GB 7200rpm, OSX 10.6.2 (personal)

Re: Just ordered an E1705
I did compare the EPP Personal Purchase Site to the Home/Home Office site and the prices were near identical, so I decided to take the 20% the system configured price and add the additional 10% coupon to the Dell Configured price and it came out to such a reasonable number I opted for the additional gig of ram from 1 to 2 gig. Well now that I have purchase it I'm not going to sweat the price anymore. I have been doing that for quite some time. And checking prices and applying coupons can make a man go mad.

Looks like you got a backpack (be sure it fits the 17", I've heard some sold with the 17" dont!) and the 2 yr virus, so, the price is pretty good.
It's a fine laptop and you got the 3 year warranty...Current: 15" MacBook Pro C2D 2.4GHz Penryn 1440x900 LED 4GB 320GB 7200rpm, OSX 10.6.2 (personal)

Re: Just ordered an E1705
I just got my laptop on Tuesday, same config as yours except I got the 7200 RPM 80GB drive. I love it so far. If you are looking for a good backpack I recommend the mobile edge premium.

Re: Just ordered an E1705
by the way some people have said that they have upgraded E1705 to 4GB of RAM.

Price is OK. Config is too. The only thing I would recommend is upgrading the HD to 7200RPM if you notice any slowdowns.HP Envy 14-1050ca | i5-430M | 6GB RAM | 1GB ATI Radeon 5650 | Radiance Display - 1600x900 | OCZ Vertex 2 120GB SSD

Re: Just ordered an E1705
4 Gigs I would love to be able to upgrade to that sometime in the future. Everywhere I look it shows only 2 gigs but if it could be done with a bios upgrade that would totally rock. Can you show me a post with that info?

Re: ->The official POST ABOUT YOUR NEW DELL NOTEBOOK thread.<-
There is only two memory banks so you would have to use 2 2GB sticks, which are hard as hell to find. I don't know if it requires a BIOS update though.
Anyone know where the best place to get 2GB of RAM for my e1705? Right now I have two 512 sticks.
