Re: ->The official POST ABOUT YOUR NEW DELL NOTEBOOK thread. <-
Well ive just spent my first day with the studio XPS 1640 and im rather impressed, really put it through its paces and it came out the other side unscathed. Very happy with the support i have recieved from dell i placed my order over the internet exactly one week ago recieved a phonecall within hours and had it delivered first thing this morning, throughout the week i had the customer support person phone me on three occasions to inform me of progress and that sort of customer care really impresses me.
all and all im very happy with what Dell offers in and out of the box, nice job dell you will get recommendations from me in the future.M17xR2, i7-740QM, Crossfirex HD5870, 6gb Ram, 17" WUXGA (1920x1200) RGBLED, 1TB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive, Blu-ray Combo Drive - Razer Mamba 4g (2012), Razer Megalodon 7.1 headphones

Re: ->The official POST ABOUT YOUR NEW DELL NOTEBOOK thread. <-
Note: I also posted this in the XPS section as I had not seen this thread.
Well, today I took the plunge. I ordered the following configuration XPS 1640:
CPU: Intel T9550 (2.66 Ghz, 6MB L2, 1066 Mhz)
Display: RGBLED
HDD: 256GB SSD
RAM: 4GB DDR3
Optical Drive: Blu-Ray
Scheduled to ship 3/31/09.
Final cost: 2044.46
Sales Experience
When I tried to purchase this through the website I ran into 2 issues.
First, there is a special that allows Blu-Ray to be added for $49. However, I was in the Member Discount section (to get my Dell Discount through my employer) and there it wanted $170 for the Blu Ray.
Second, the shopping cart in that section would not communicate properly with my Payment method.
So, I used the "click to call" option on the website. The service was fast and courteous, and they manually applied the right discounts and got my order properly entered into the system.
Within minutes I had an email with a detailed description of my order.
More interesting, shortly thereafter I received an email notifying me that I would be receiving a $100 Dell gift card. Then later when I logged in online to check the order and make sure it was in the pipeline I noted that Dell upgraded my shipping to Next Business Day at no charge.
The current projected ship date is 4/1/2009.
Once it arrives I will post the usual box opening and performance testing information. I am especially curious to see the following:
1) Does the SSD affect temperature? If so, how much?
2) Performance and temp before and after I rebuild the image to get rid of the extraneous apps Dell includes and also to optimize Vista for SSD use.Laptop:
Dell Studio XPS 16
2.66 Ghz 1066Mhz Core 2 Duo
4GB DDR3 RAM
256GB SSD HDD
