    Default Inspiron 1520

    Ordering a Inspiron 1520 tonight with these specs:

    85Whr Lithium Ion Battery (9 cell)
    ===================================================

    $2,363.00
    - $292.00
    - $207.10
    - $223.67
    _________

    $1,640.23

    ====================================================

    Gotta love discounts

    I have a few questions about the notebook, though...

    1. Is it worth the $68 to get the T7300 instead of the T7100?
    2. Are the notebooks made from magnesium alloy or something? (I read it in another topic)

    in the 1420 review at pcmag.com, they state the case is made of magnesium alloy. I'm assuming the 1520 is similar.

    I'm curious as to where you got all those discounts from. By phone or some secret place online?

    I found the Sager notebook from another thread, and I'm stuck in a dilemma. I think you should take a look at this:
    http://www.powernotebooks.com/product.php?itemId=1916
    the "force" model (on the left) has virtually all the features of the inspiron 1520, but w/ a 512 mb video card rather than a 256, and yet it's $300 cheaper than the inspiron, even after dell's rebates. Now, I've personally never heard of Sager before, but this is looking to be a better deal.

    I can't really answer your questions, but I thought this would be something you'd like to know.

    A higher/bigger cache(4mb l2 cache in the T7300) will help in CPU intensive task like encoding/video and photo editing/number crunching/business apps/ect but a good amount or ram and a fast(5400rpm or 7200prm) helps too.

    The Inspiron Line ISN'T known for their build quality(however it could change with the E1420/1520 ect). Its know for its cheap prices but you get what you pay for

    The discounts are through the affiliate/employee program.

    The $292 discount is for everyone, though, from my knowledge.

    If the most powerful thing my bro will be doing is some gaming, then the 2MB will be fine?

    In gaming the Main bottleneck/slowdown/limiting factor is the GPU(8600m GT should do pretty good. Most modern dual core should do well in gaming but future games will get more CPU and GPU dependant(some already have)

    The Sager NP2090 is the same exact notebook as the Comapl IFL90(powerpro model on PNB) but they have diff starting configuration and different warranty options.
    Compal makes/designs the Compal IFL90 and Sager rebrands the Compal IFL90 and sells it as the Sager NP2090.

    Read more about ODM like compal and OEM like sager/hp/dell

    Yeah, I know all about Sager/Clevo/etc, but my brother isn't that much of a gamer and he only wants to buy from Dell, Sony, HP, Lenovo right now.

    Our parents are really reluctant right now and hopefully within a few months I can get them to buy the C90/91/80 probably.

    Anyway, if he is willing to pay for it, 2.0 Ghz should last longer of course. I will just tell him to get 2.0 ghz.

    Also, the only games he going to play are Command and Conquer 3, Bioshock when it comes out, after that...not many games. He is going to med school.

    Yep, the specs of the Sager NP2090 and the Dell 1520 are very close. To decide between the two, you should look at the details of the specs of each machine and also at the details of the warranties in particular. The basic Sager warranty is 3 years labor 1 year parts.

    Yeah, I got the best warranty that Dell offers and I get a $701 discount...I'm definately going with the 1520, but I just wanted to some info the processor. I finalized on the T7300.
