    Default VISTA + Jerky footage

    Two questions -

    1) Installed Vista manually on my E1505..and now I tried downloading video from my camcorder and the playback is jerky. Is there a fix?

    2) I now wanted to restore the DELL system to its factory settings. I tried pressing Ctrl + F11 at startup DELL logo but it does not seem to be working anymore. Did I delete the restore partition? But I do not think so. Because I took care while I was installing the OS.

    Try hitting F8 instead.

But, F8 takes me to the safe mode menu in VISTA.

I have figured out that my recovery partition is screwed because of MBR intrusion by VISTA.

But why jerky footage when I load the camcorder video on the notebook? Other movies work fine.. is it because of the MPEG video? it looks fine when I play the video in a window. But full screen playback is lagging.

If you want to restore the factory image hit F8 and choose "repair computer". Follow the prompts until you get a choice to "restore factory image". I think it is the last choice on the menu box.....
I have no answer for the video problem. Sorry.

I installed ATI Catalyst 7.2. The video problem still exists.

Another interesting thing is that the video (ATI flag in air) does not play in ATI control panel "video" settings tab.

This is kind of a shot in the dark, but have you looked at your power settings. It's possible that if you are balanced or power saver setting that your video card might not be running at full speed (especially if you're running on battery power).

I know that when I am streaming video from the net, I need to go to High Performance in my power settings to get the best results.

The ability to tweak power usage settings in Vista is pretty impressive, but I feel like it could take me months to get them just the way I want them.

I know the limitation for a mobility graphic adapter. They require more power and can't perform on battery.

So I always give A/C power to the laptop when I am playing a game or watching a DVD movie.

But even after that the footage (which I shot on my camcorder) looks jerky when watched full screen. They look fine when watched in media player's window. But the original DVD movies look fine on full screen and this is interesting.

I thought I messed up the codecs. So I installed fresh codec pack. But in vain. I read somewhere that the camcorder I have (SONY DCR-SR80) shoots videos in a different MPEG format which media player surely shows. But it has to be converted (imported) by some software to the standard format. Speculations...
