Re: New Dell xps 17(l721x)
I wonder if dell will consider thunder bolt ports on their future machines. As apple has become succesfull with it. I also actually have the pins for a TB port on my z77 motherboard.

i also hope in this upcoming model dell will keep the old design but suppress both of it below 3 kg and make it thinner. hehe

Re: New Dell xps 17(l721x)
Apple hasn't been successful with it. Apple is the only major OEM that uses the port, there are only 5-7 devices capable of taking advantage of it, and no one else in the industry has adopted it -- not even at Intel's bequest. TB gets 1 GB of throughput, USB 3.0 gets 500 MB. Not a big enough difference for anyone to waste the crucial real estate on a laptop to accommodate the <1% willing or wanting to use TB. TB is another FireWire/Memory Stick/Betamax, etc.

Re: New Dell xps 17(l721x)
Agreed, the only things that could/should make use of that sort of throughput would be video straming/cameras .... exactly the sort of thing that Firewire was also perfect for, yet failed to be adopted as the standard (which in my eyes at least was a shame)
Unless of course you could string a few external drives together through it, maybe a raid array
