Default Battery Light blinking at 'near' full charge...

My XPS battery light is blinking (four short orange, long white) when close to fully charged. It will never get to 100% (98 or 99 and stops charging). When I unplug the AC adapter, it continues blinking for a while until the battery discharges a bit, then it stops.

I was under the impression the blink code was on a failing battery, but the battery is charging near full and holds a charge, and blinks when near full instead of immediately when AC is plugged in.

Any ideas? I called Dell on this and I can send it in RIGHT before my warranty expires, but I'd like to know what the problem is.

Is this an M1330 or M1530? Is the battery genuine or aftermarket? Does this happen with other batteries, if you have any others with which to test?

    Actually, it's an L701X.

Also, when I boot up, after the Dell Splash screen, it gives me two beeps and prompts me to press (with associated messages)

    F1
    F2
    F12

I dont have a clue with the battery light flashing etc but two beeps at the start could be related to the cmos battery. what messages are given for the F1, F2 and F12.

im guessing F1 may be something like boot normally, F2 enter bios and F12 boot options.

    Correct. F1 = continue, F2 = Setup/Bios, F12 Boot options.

Anyway -- I'm just gonna send it in -- may as well.

according to the manual, 2 beeps means no ram detected however if no ram was detected it wouldnt show the F1, F2, F12 options.

can you confirm that the correct amount of ram is found.

hey mknott... i didnt check the ram .. and it does display f1, f2 and f12 at start ( only when battery near full) .. but my problem is the minor one : the blinking battery display at near full.. everything else is fine : the battery , backup, charging... blinks is the only prob..
