are you sure all the required files are in the folder?

if you still having problems try run winflash.exe with following parameters:

    Code:
    WinFlash.exe /all /sa /sn /sd /sp /svs /sv /cvar BIOS1.WPH
you can do this by creating a shortcut to winflash and edit it.

    or from a cmd window

you may need to specify absolute paths to winflash.exe and bios1.wph files
Yeah it was a silly error lol. Just didn't extract the files. Thanks for your help, captain. I just noticed you are also the same person who made the BIOS's. I've played for about an hour so far in a game that would normally freeze with that obnoxious metallic sound after 10 minutes on average. Many many thanks for the BIOS's.

    thank you ^_^

    glad you liked the mod

if you tell me the details of the bios you are using at the moment (bios version,GPU model and voltages) I can add you to the first post

I am using the GT540 BIOS, version A09, with 0.83v for 2d, and 0.85v for 3d. Unfortunately though, I'm starting to get the same problem again where the game freezes up with that metallic sound and I have to restart my computer with the power button.

The CPU and GPU aren't going much over 80 degrees Celsius, and I haven't gotten and game freezes while playing on the battery alone. I have only played with on the battery for two time periods equaling a total of about 2.5 hours, so I'm not 100% sure that my computer will always work on battery power. I'm starting to think that maybe it is just the motherboard.

    @Hunter13040

    added you the first post.

well, while some users reported the modded bioses fully fixed the issue, others also reported the modded bios only improved the situation , but didnt fully fixed it.

I would try the A10 modded bios, and the latest nvidia drivers, if that still not help, replace the mobo or underclock GPU core (reduce GPU core clock speed).

the default gt540m speed is arround 675 mhz, try lowering it to 650, if that not fix the problem try 640, 630, 620 .... until the crashes stop happening.

I admit I am starting to hate the gt540m, for some users it just seems a bad oced gt525m card wich need the clock be lowered again to work stable/fine, glad I did not wasted the money into the gt525m to gt540m "upgrade".

also not fully sure if the gt540m extra video memory is worth at all

Capitankasr, yeah I like the computer as long as it would work :/ Hopefully after I get it back everything will work and I can really enjoy it.

I was also suffering from this stutter problem earlier that I got rid of when I removed McFee antivirus: Dell xps L502x Stutter Problem - YouTube

Just ran 3dmark06 and scored 7229 with the newest 310.24 NVIDIA drivers, and stock clocks on everything. Seems a bit low, no? Here is the result: NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-2630QM Processor,Dell Inc. 0NJT03 score: 7229 3DMarks

First it was weird cpu spiking to 99% that I got rid by doing so many tricks I am not sure what finally helped but I think it was removing Mcfee antivirus. Then my CPU went up to 100c !! when playing Starcraft2 and I had to do the 99% cpu trick to get it under control.

Now I am experiencing random crashes in Starcraft2 where I now and then have to use the power button and now and then I can kill SC2 but have to restart the computer to clear it from the task manager. Tried to play some CS:GO beta and it never crashes there. At the moment SC2 seems to be the only game that crashes but I have not played many other games in a while.

I tried the modded 0.85v version and ran Furmark 1.10 for 15 minutes without any problems. I also have the newest Nvidia drivers that just came out 301.24. I am getting really tired and every time I have called Dell it has been a major headache. So how did you go by to get them to actually do something? My only option is to send it across Canada for them to take a look at it and I just have a bad feeling it is going to take a month and not much is going to get done?

Any help is welcome at this point
Ok so an update on my problems. I send the computer to the depo and they changed the motherboard and fan and the problem actually got worse in games. I have had 100% crashes in Starcraft 2 and Black Ops that I tried but managed to play Dota2 for 5h straight without a crash. So I was on the phone and Dell made me do a factory reset and reinstall the newest drivers, but the problem still continues. The interesting part is that stress tests and 3dmark06 does not crash the computer but games do. The CPU and Motherboard still goes up to 95 degrees in stress tests or playing a game and streaming with xsplit.

The interesting part is that the computer does not crash if I unplug it from the wall and play on battery power. At least not the one time I tried after reading from another user that this must help.

I have an depo warranty and they wanted me to send the computer in for another motherboard replacement but I refused. I managed to talk to a manager and they will send a technician to my place to replace a second time the motherboard, fan and heat sink. I really pray that guy will be good and the problem will disappear. I will keep you guys updated.

not sure about why you posted the same post in at least 3 different topics.

well, it seems you are another of those gt540m users experiencing crashes, too bad the mobo switch didnt worked, however since you said the problem got even worse after the mobo replacement.

I also remember have been reading about users running the laptop on battery power seemed to avoid the crashes, not sure about why,I think it could be some kind of thottle but idk.

lets see if the second mobo replacement improve the situation, else you may need to try underclock the card if installing again the undervolted bios didnt fully fixed the problem.

Howdy, running 525m here. Just want to say super thanks for the modded bioses. My l502x was not happy at all to play starcraft 2 before. Random graphics card lockups were incredibly common. With the .85v mod, crashes are history, and I can clock it to 740mhz too.

    Thanks!

I definitely noticed an improvement after flashing the A09 83, 85 BIOS. I was able to play CS: Source for an hour or two before it crashed, whereas I would only usually play it for 20 minutes tops before crashing.

I think lowering the voltage might be playing a big role, so I decided to flash the A10 83, 83 BIOS. I'm also about to underclock my GPU like you advised me to do, and I'll let the thread's silent observers know how that goes.

Here's my personal theory: The GT540m card is getting worn out some how from too much heat. Because it's getting worn out, smaller amounts of heat cause it crash. Therefore underclocking and undervolting the GT540m render a cooler card and make it less likely to crash. However, that still doesn't explain why running off of battery power renders no GPU crashes, so...
