Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
Hello.
I have small questions:
I'd like to reinstall my windows7 on Dell XPS without any shi....Only drivers. Quickset.
Procedure like Dell recommended?
Is any chance to reinstall Office starter after this re-installation?
Thanks

Have you updated the firmware since? sandforce drives are known to be problematic.
Idk if you can download a trial, havent looked but if you want a long term free office solution, you could try open office OpenOffice.org - The Free and Open Productivity Suite3DMark11: P6506

Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
If it's a Vertex 2/3 or Agility 2/3, you have a Sandforce-based drive. The new Vertex 4 uses an Indilinx controller as OCZ bought them up over a year ago, but we shall see if OCZ improves quality along the way... The 3s have the more problematic controller (Sandforce 22xx) but if you haven't had trouble yet, you are likely OK. I think that controller at least addressed the issues with the Vertex/Agility 2s (and other Sandforce 1xxx controllers) where they frequently (anecdotal evidence suggests somewhere from 10-25%!) went belly-up after 3-4 months...I got lucky with mine Vertex 2 in that it's been 18 months, but boy was it a pain to get working right...
Sorry to those with OCZ drives and no issues, but I and many others have been badly burnt by the Sandforce beta controllers (that's essentially what they were), and OCZ in particular has horrible CS. A lot of the issues have honestly been fixed, but certainly NOT nearly all of them, and it took Sandforce nearly a year to even admit there was a problem with their controllers, let alone try to fix it (they instead blamed the consumers for having incompatible hardware...an SSD should be just like an HDD->plug it in, it works, regardless of hardware config->all the non-Sandforce drives work fine on everything... O, and it should be reliable...).Laptop: XPS l702x | i7-2720QM | Nvidia 555m + Intel HD 3000 (Optimus) | 8GB 1333MHz (Corsair) | 1080p AG (no-3D) | Intel 6230 WiFi | Crucial M4 256GB SSD | Seagate 500GB 7200RPM | Backlit KB | 9-cell Battery | Blu-Ray Reader/DVD+CD Burner
Desktop: Q9550 @3.4GHz | GA-X48-DS5 | 8GB DDR2 1066 (Crucial) | Gigabyte 560TI @ 900/1800/4000 | 2x 22" 1680x1050 | Vertex 2 240GB SSD | 2x WD Black 1TB (RAID 1) | Antec 300 Case | Antec TP3-650W PSU

Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
yeah, mine's has been 100% reliable, I forgot I still have the link laying around, so if it helps... I'll post it up for you guys:
Newegg.com - OCZ Solid 3 SLD3-25SAT3-120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC
So far it's had 4/5 Eggs from newegg so i'm pretty sure it's a reliable drive (IMO anyways).
FYI, for kopap, SSD drives always degrade as time goes by, so it's not unusual if you have put a lot of use into your SSD drive, either that or you need to run the windows index again to test for SSD speed, because something could have been running in the background while you were doing the windows index.

Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
Forgot about the "solid" line. Same controller (right in the Newegg description - Sandforce 2281), but like I said, if you aren't having trouble, count yourself among the lucky and enjoy it!
As an aside, one of the reviews on that drive had a manufacturer reply about how OCZ only sees 1% of it's customers report an issue with their SSDs....Yea, right, we know from outside sources that is not even close (I'm not talking review counts either as there are certainly issues with that method. There was a report that last year OCZ drives had like an 8% DOA rate! - Or something near that mark, I do remember it being way too high and over 2x anything not-Sandforce)Laptop: XPS l702x | i7-2720QM | Nvidia 555m + Intel HD 3000 (Optimus) | 8GB 1333MHz (Corsair) | 1080p AG (no-3D) | Intel 6230 WiFi | Crucial M4 256GB SSD | Seagate 500GB 7200RPM | Backlit KB | 9-cell Battery | Blu-Ray Reader/DVD+CD Burner
