I had the same problem. Found on Crucial forums you need to have the update file on drive C: or you get the error. Fixed it for me.

Replace the keyboard, I've done this with many of my customers at work, they either spilled juice on it and lied, or their kid did a jig on the keyboard because he/she thought it was cute.

Thanks guys I ordered him one. He is a little tight on $$ and didn't want to blindly throw parts at it without really knowing.

Engineer from Dell came on Friday morning, explained over the phone to him(i was at work),that the usb 3 didn't work properly, half an hour later got a call back to say that he would come back Monday with a new keyboard and palm rest.
He said that when he tried to remove keyboard it was so tight that he would either scratch the palm rest or snap the keyboard.
I told him that the old keyboard had loads of flex and was replaced ,he said he could not understand how it was so tight.
I think he was being a bit of a coward as the keyboard is solid as a rock and a pleasure to use,so the tightness he was on about was just a correct snug fit.

My wife who was present when the engineer arrived has just told me some alarming details, she said that he removed the back panel and the dvd drive then proceeded to try and remove the keyboard with the palm rest still in situ ,she said he was trying to prise the keyboard from the top corners .
Would an engineer really come not knowing that the palm rest goes over the keyboard? ,it explains why he thought it was so tight and that he thought he may scratch the palm rest in the process.

Yikes, that sounds scary! A tip for people (other than you Sam) is if your Windows is not showing up on boot-up, pop in your disk and do a start up diagnostics (it's in the beginning, I believe in "customize" when you first get into the windows 7 installation).
I havent actually checked for any updates from intel as ive had no problems with the hd 3000 and it auto switching. But i think optimus is handled by the nvidia driver anyway.

It did say something about putting in a disc to diagnose and repair windows but i was sure it was nothing serious so restarted and updated via the old method.

Ahh that actually makes sense, although they should mention it before you restart to make sure you have it on your c (m4) drive. Have it in bold letters or something.

Thanks for finding that out though!

Sometimes Dell sends out first-timers for specific models. Like the guy who was sent for me worked on my laptop for the 2nd time. He wasn't very efficient, but he was scared and extremely careful lol

Does anyone here still have their Intel TurboBoost thing? I've actually managed to spike up to 4.13Ghz on speedfan..... Not sure if that's a glitch or if i've really hit 4.13Ghz

Got it to spike up even more, ridiculous, and funny at the same time!

Approx 10Ghz, and I'm not sure if it's for real, but the GPU spiked up in temp too! I was idling at 49C
