Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
Hello all! I have been lurking for a couple of months. This is my story.
With infinite sadness, I have put my XPS M1730 to rest. It has been the greatest for almost 5 years but it just doesn't cut it anymore.
I ordered an Alienware M17x. I hated the soft touch rubberized surfaces, a LOT!! And so I returned it, and began another search. I finally made the decision to try this XPS after reading all the reviews, and most of this entire thread.
I am jaw-dropped! This is one stunning computer. I went with the 3d and the screen is just gorgeous! Really no words express how impressed I am.
Two questions: 1) How do I find out what BIOS version is installed? Have read here about all the different version issues and am curious. 2) How do I turn off Turbo Boost, and are there any benefits in doing so?
Kudos to all of you for being so helpful and non-flaming. Pretty unusual these days!

Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
Goku!
Yes, there are blue tooth drivers. Just none of them makes the device works.
I somehow during installing my drivers, installed the blue tooth. Well it was picked up by windows or I guess it was a by product of some other network driver.
But, none of the devices can be connected and / or transfer data.
So, Any one that has a working bluetooth driver. Please to post :P

Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
Congratz, on the wonderful purchase. Its my first EVER laptop. And i have searched for about a year, before getting one, that would fit my bill and will have all the oomph. I love this system, and with the SSD, it just flies.
Oh and not bragging, I think I am the only one in my city / region to have this specced beast. (From Pakistan)
- To check for Bios version, download either HWmonitor 64, or Aida 64. It will tell you about all the hardware and firmware installed in your system. You can find both with a simple google search.
-And about stopping the turbo boost. I have turned it off, and my cpu temps hardly ever go beyond 70 degrees. I don't need the necessary power and i7 2.4 ghz can fulfill my basic gaming needs quite easily
Here follow this thread for steps to turning off turbo.

Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
Well, I got it working. I just typed bluetooth into the start menu and found settings and some tasks listed. It's still very different than my XPSM1710 was. at least I got it to pair up with other devices. Still unable to transfer yet, but at least it paired.

Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
As you can see the above, posts, you definitely got an awesome laptop! And kudos to you for getting the 3d version! It was one I wanted but wasn't sure if i REALLY wanted. Lol
Have you tried a software called Driver Genius? It works really well.
What are you using? Like what device are you using to pair it up? For me, Windows Mobile phones (at least WM7) and some other various devices are unable to pair with laptops for file transfers, only limited features.

XPS L702X display distortion after going into standby
Hey guys – Hope I am posting this in the right place, wondering if anyone has had similar issue with their L702X:
When I re-awaken my computer from standby the display is highly distorted, almost looks like a color calibration issue. It started as an intermittent problem but has since escalated to where I am experiencing this issue every time the machine hits sleep mode or goes blank from the screen saver timer. Additionally, I often see distortion as soon as the display dims following a period of inactivity. Reds in particular are over-saturated, overly-bright and almost fluorescent. While this is most noticeable with reds, the distortion applies to all colors. Grays become nearly invisible, etc. If I refresh the screen the colors go back to normal, but upon entering standby mode it reverts to the nasty, seemingly uncalibrated settings.
DISPLAY INFO - - NVIDIA GeForce GT 550M - DEL XPS L702X - - Intel Core i7-2630QM CPU @2.00GHZ
I’ve spent hours on the phone with Dell Tech Support; couldn't fix problem (go figure). Updating display drivers makes no difference… Uninstalling and reinstalling the display drivers makes no difference... Uninstalled and reinstalled drivers for NVIDA - all to no avail
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. I plan on hooking up an external monitor tonight to see if the issue is replicated, but am willing to bet the answer is going to be yes.
