To you and spassvogel this driver installation guide is good Clean Installation - XPS 17 Wiki
Installing an ssd is pretty simple theres only 1 screw to take out of the back panel which shows the hdd's and ram.
A quick run through would be to remove the hdd's first install the ssd, install windows and drivers. Reinstall the hdd and wipe it (format it) if need be. Then disable defrag etc on the ssd.

Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
Thats alright
it is pretty easy to do. There are four little screws holding the hdd and spare caddy in but be careful! Some are screwed in very tightly, or they were on mine atleast. After the screws are out holding it down to the mobo, it simply slides backwards using a black tab to disconnect it from the data/power connector.
What ssd have you got out of interest?3DMark11: P6506

Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
I'd avoid the Intel 520 personally, it's based on the same Sandforce controller that the Vertex 3, Force 3, and co are based on, and even Intel hasn't gotten all the BSOD issues fixed from what I've seen. Crucial M4, Intel 510, Samsung 830 are all great though. Personally I love the M4, but have limited experience with the other 2 to be fair

Still an awesome system!
