Well - all my backups are on external drives. I opened the box for this laptop at about 10:30am while I was at work and have probably spent about 4 hours on it so far - but that was a full install, all drivers, programs etc and now Steam and all my games! That's not all that long surely

Having an SSD does speed it up though!

Must be nice. I'm a developer. It will take me at least a day to install everything. Probably longer.

Yeah. That would suck. I'm glad I don't have to do that any more since I moved away from coding!

Hi, I just got my laptop today, are any of you guys having issues with the fan? I often get cpu spikes which causes my fans to scream (whenever turbo boost is on). It's pretty annoying!
Is this a rare problem? Is it worth getting Dell to check it out?

Mine gets loud playing Skyrim, but nothing to annoying.

ye, understandably it's loud during gaming, but I get random cpu spikes during normal web browsing :/ which instantly speeds up the fans for a couple of seconds before being quiet again

If there's space between the function keys and the plastic bezel (which is really part of the palmrest), maybe removing the palmrest and adjusting the keyboard position will fix it.

Are you in the US? That foil chimney duct tape is available at building supply stores like Home Despot and Lowes, any place that sells wood/pellet stove and inserts, and many hardware stores

I think, i didn't explain it well. What i meant, was the flex starts from the hinge that lies directly above the f6-17 key, where the keyboard is supposed to snugly fit, and apparently its not fixed to the hinge.

So, i was wondering, is there any way to snap it back to the hinge? without having to take apart my system? Or, may be the hinge that connects is broken!!

The flex is quite visible, when ever i use any of the fuction key.

Where can i download the update? if i try to update from the powerdvd program it just says no updates available

What version do power DVD do you have? 9.5 or 9.6. 9.6 is the latest version for the 9 series. So if you Disk will not play you will need to get power DVD 11. Download the trial of power dvd 11 and see if that disk will play.

Can any one share a profile for AUO v.4! i have installed the new lcd, and the color seems flush, yellows arent that dark and all. So any one got a good profile roaming here and there, mind sharing, also can you tell how to calibrate using color management?

I've just ordered L702x with i7-2670, 6gb ram, 3gb GT-555M and 1080p non-3D screen.

I know this configuration comes with only 2 usable ram slots, and Dell quote a maximum memory configuration of 8gb.

I want to get a grip on the possibility of installing 2 x 8gb DIMMs.

I've trawled the forums. In this forum there is speculation that 8gb should be supported though nobody appears to confirm. The thread at Dell L702x RAM Slots issue !!! - Laptop General Hardware Forum - Laptop - Dell Community is ambiguous: fev1969 says he installed 2 8gb DIMMS and they worked; while the thread concludes with mikelore indicating he's tried 2 matched 8gb dimms and they didn't work (very recently, indeed, just 2 days ago).

Can anyone else confirm whether or not 2 x 8gb DIMMS can be installed in the above laptop config?

Have you managed to find anything else out robers? I'm in the same boat as you and will be trying out 2x8gb corsair ram when mine arrives in a weeks time. PM me if you want and we try and figure this one out?

Ps For any UK users who are interested in trying out 8gb dimms, Ginger6 are selling 2x8gb for £100. I've never bought with them before so at the moment I can't make any recommendations but I'll be putting in an order shortly.
