Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
Can else anyone confirm if the 2720 can handle 1600? Other threads/posters are saying it can't
Another question on RAM - I've never upgraded it before, and when I go to newegg, there's different types (10664, 10666, etc) - does the type matter at all?
Also, are there any brands that I should stay away from? Any recommended brands?

Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
All we know so far is that Sandy Bridge is capable of SATA III. Who knows if this required Dell to invest any money to support it, which they may have deemed unnecessary. I guess I'm just a pessimist. I really hope someone throws a SATA III drive into their L702x soon. I'm buying a SATA III capable 256GB Crucial C400 most likely, but they aren't released yet and my laptop is still in "delivery prep".
Can someone with a 2720QM confirm what speed memory Dell shipped you? 1600hz or 1333mhz?

Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
Great, thanks for the info!
This is the only 1600MHz I'm aware of: Newegg.com - Kingston HyperX 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory Model KHX1600C9S3K2/8GX. Do you think the quad-core i7s (I guess more specifically, the motherboard) would support it?
Do you mind running SIW on your laptop to see if it mentions SATA III anywhere?

Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
Thanks for the info everybody. I'd assume the system would take a SATA III hard drive but would it actually be running at SATA III speeds though?
Looking at the i7-2720QM and above processors, it shows support for the 1600MHz speed but again, would they clock down to 1333MHz.
Regardless on the memory, the price difference on the Kingston 1600MHz compared to any 1333MHz is about marginal so I may just get the Kingston 1600MHz RAM.

Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
If someone installed 1600MHz RAM and the system downclocked it to 1333, would I be able to get better performance by just installing 1333MHz?
