Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
Hi guys,
just bought it.
From what I understood my 2720qm goes to 3.3 ghz from 2.2ghz but Turbo boost raises up also the vcore.
Pratically I saw temperature goes very high when I use 4 cores at 100%. From 47°C in idle to 80-81°C (really hot at my home during these days, 30°C in my room) at 3.3ghz but after some minutes the speed drops to 2.5-2.6 (probably because the too high temp).
I would like to know I there is some software that let me tune the cpu vcore (since the bios is locked) beacuse probably the cpu does not need the 0,1v of vcore raising and if I can keep the vcore lower, the temperature will be lower too and so I will have more probability to keep the 3.3ghz constant.
many thanks in advance

Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
No, there is no way I am aware of to change the CPU vcore on these machines.
~80C is about right for full-bore on this machine. That's about what my 2720 pulls at 100% CPU. Not to worry, the chips are designed for it, 90C is sort of the maximum you would ever want to see, hit that or above and you likely will start having troubles.Laptop: XPS l702x | i7-2720QM | Nvidia 555m + Intel HD 3000 (Optimus) | 8GB 1333MHz (Corsair) | 1080p AG (no-3D) | Intel 6230 WiFi | Crucial M4 256GB SSD | Seagate 500GB 7200RPM | Backlit KB | 9-cell Battery | Blu-Ray Reader/DVD+CD Burner

Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
guys can I replace my screen whit a multiple touch one??????? and what resolution does it have . my laptop been delivered Monday. and here's my story . I got mine yesterday arLund 9 o'clock in the morning. they said end of day lol. after unpacking it I have noticed a spot on the chrome bezel which is around the edge of the laptop when u open it on the base. secondly I was promised I will have a 4 slot motherboard as whit 3d ones and mine is a non3d but they told me its a 4 slot one. after booting up and all my girlfriend was on facebook and watching a trailer on YouTube a 1080p one and suddenlybamgggggggg. screen full of little color lines and laptop odsent to nothin. just stay there and the lines are flashing. I turned it off when I want to turn it back on I hear bip bip bip bip around 3 sec quiet and again. 3 sets of 4 bip s after that shuts itself off. charged and plugged in. I was expecting something to go wrong first day as many reported on notebookcheck website . called the support today and they treating me as a god and asking apologize and stuff. they will change it in a brand new one. thanks Dell. I will keep this laptop after they sort it out but I will never buy another Dell product. I'm really sorry Dell.

Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
I believe a 900p screen could be swapped for a 900p touch screen, but I'm not positive if there is something additional between them connector-wise. Sorry.
As for 4 RAM slots, I guarantee if you got a non-3D screen system, you didn't get 4 slots. Dell has said this many times in the past, including to me, and we have finally figured their game out. I got REALLY nasty with them, not that it got me very far. The only way to get it is to have all of: 3D screen, 555m graphics card, and quad-core i7. Their reps are poorly trained and will still occasionally make false claims such as these. Dell lost a lot of sales over that fiasco.Laptop: XPS l702x | i7-2720QM | Nvidia 555m + Intel HD 3000 (Optimus) | 8GB 1333MHz (Corsair) | 1080p AG (no-3D) | Intel 6230 WiFi | Crucial M4 256GB SSD | Seagate 500GB 7200RPM | Backlit KB | 9-cell Battery | Blu-Ray Reader/DVD+CD Burner

Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
Im looking to get some decent ram for my xps, so whats the best? Kingston hyper x? I realise the xps is only 1333mhz but if any 1600 which would be downclocked is faster than 1333mhz then i'll buy it.

Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
they said its a ram problem. and an engenier will come and fix it. so far ok. but what about the scratch on the chrome bezel? and I'm trying to force them as this laptop has cost me alot of time and frustration and my trust in Dell.
get a 3d version cheaper then on the website a basic one whit 2 gb ram and smallest hdd. push me luck guys.
ps: I have told the tech guy who keeps calling me back that I have acces to a big review website and and we don't want to post this . he said ko he dosent want to. maybe this was whit a good effect on support? hahaahhah il come whit updates.

Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
Anyone else been having problems connecting to the internet?
Every time I open up my laptop, it takes about 3 mins to connect to the internet (through wifi), when it only took a few seconds before. I've tried connecting to several other connections and it's always the same. It works fine after these 3 mins, but can't connect before this?
