Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
I have an issue with my xps17 (3D) hdmi connection and my sony hx720 tv. When I duplicate the screen towards the tv, I get a switch on my tv for a few seconds between a black screen, computer, black screen, computer etc. When I change the computer screen completely to the tv, my tv gives me a black screen. Does anyone had the same problem and is there a solution? I already updated my nvidia drivers, but sadly with no result....

Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
i am having a similar issue
when i plug my laptop into my monitor using hdmi, the monitor stays black and its not recognised by windows,
if i plug a different monitor in, then go back to this one it works fine
also it worked once when i booted up the laptop WHILE the monitor was plugged in
might try getting a mini display port thing to HDMI cable

Check and see if your monitor has a driver available. My Dell 24" LCD came with a driver disk which I thought was kind of odd. It really shouldn't matter but in my own case it went from ST2410(Digital Display) to ST2410(HDMI) after I installed the driver.

Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
I have been using the laptop since april. its a great one.
suddenly i feel a lag in the whole system. the videos, games and even the audio suddenly struggles to keep up.... tried restoring windows too.. still having the problem.
the main problem is that when i restart the PC ... it goes down but doesn't start automatically.. i have to turn off manually use the power button (the sound inside appears when i do tat), then have to restart it myself.

feel like its a hardware problem.
any ideas? how to fix this issue?

Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
wow, thats weird, the only time i have experienced this was once with a faulty usb hub extender thing, and once when using a HDMI > DVI cable (Every time it was removed it froze)
i would chek the temperatures to make sure nothing has come loose (so make sure you are not going over 80c etc....
possibily try with individual memory sticks
and make sure the hard drive isnt damaged with bad sectors or anything

Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
Hi, I have this model too. My brother ordered it for me without my knowledge. I really wanted a smaller notebook, but he probably remembered me saying I was considering a desktop replacement.
It's a nice-looking notebook. A few things bother me about it however. The hard disk activity light: why is it hidden behind the screen? Makes no sense; I use it a lot to diagnose possible problems/lock ups. The left-hand speaker gets covered up with my palm while using the keyboard for gaming, thereby muffling the sound. That seems to be a design oversight. Also, the screen has poor viewing angles for such a high-end notebook (mine is 1600x900).
I have been trying to install XP in a dual-boot configuration (I also have XP running in VirtualBox in Windows 7). I've got the drive space with a second internal 750GB drive and installed XP Pro 32bit and can dual-boot with Windows 7... Only I need some drivers that will work with XP, such as video drivers for NVIDIA 555M. I got a driver for the LAN, so at least the wired Internet works. Does someone have experience installing XP on this model, and any links to drivers that will work? It's half installed as it is.
Cheers!

Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
Your comments on the odd activity light placement and covering the left speaker are common ones. Dell didn't fully think it out, though having been inside the system several times, there isn't anywhere else to put the speakers as things stand, they've pretty big. Hopefully something they will fix in future models, the sound is really surprisingly good I must say, especially for a laptop!
As for XP drivers for the 555m you are going to have a hard time. As the card just came out this year and Windows 7 has been out for a couple years now, NVidia hasn't even made an XP driver as far as I know, and it doesn't make much sense from their end, XP is now End-of-Life. If Microsoft had just left the ability to execute 16-bit installers in 7 x64 we wouldn't really even need XP Mode...and likely people would be more willing to upgrade (particularly companies, but I digress).Laptop: XPS l702x | i7-2720QM | Nvidia 555m + Intel HD 3000 (Optimus) | 8GB 1333MHz (Corsair) | 1080p AG (no-3D) | Intel 6230 WiFi | Crucial M4 256GB SSD | Seagate 500GB 7200RPM | Backlit KB | 9-cell Battery | Blu-Ray Reader/DVD+CD Burner
Desktop: Q9550 @3.4GHz | GA-X48-DS5 | 8GB DDR2 1066 (Crucial) | Gigabyte 560TI @ 900/1800/4000 | 2x 22" 1680x1050 | Vertex 2 240GB SSD | 2x WD Black 1TB (RAID 1) | Antec 300 Case | Antec TP3-650W PSU
Still an awesome system!
