Thanks for the tip I tend to leave anything to do with the wifi or the gpu alone. They tend to be very lean processes/services anyway [mostly] so why bother messing with them. Also, if you do a clean install, always download from the manufacturers website (Intel/nVidia/Synaptics/etc). They tend to have slimmer versions of the drivers, more fully featured, and obviously, completely up to date.

    I don't understand why they wouldn't though.

I paid 1600 for my XPS less than a month ago, if they offer me a replacement system, why wouldn't they allow to me get a AW from the outlet that does not exceed the cost of my original XPS?

I guess this is their way of sticking it to me? By sending me a refurbished system as a replacement that they are trying to sell for about 500 less than my original purchase price?

IMHO, that's paying full price for a refurbished system.

Think of it like a new car. When I get my new systems, they even smell different. The system burns off the coating they get in the factory. The satisfaction of knowing I'm the first to turn it on.

The second I drive it off the lot, it depreciates. Your 'new' system will never be new again. I realize its not as drastic as a car, but you can request a new build. But it's either A: Next day refurb, or B: New build system in 2 weeks that may have a flaw [Most likely not]

Dell sells millions of systems, us few on the forums are a very small percentage. And we're not mainstream. I'd like to think we expect more than most people, so choose your battles wisely and make sure to ALWAYS get what will make you happy. Dell will make you happy, whether new or refurb.

Yes you do have to remove the access panel I just fitted a Sony BD RW BD-5740H in my l702X.

I use anydvd HD software to reset the region coding or look for a version of cyberlinks power DVD player 10 that allows you to reset region coding for blu-ray movies.

If you want to play blu-ray films via the hdmi lead you need to use anydvd hd version to play some disk due to copy protection.

The problem with the disk you are using I had the same problem with one of my blu ray its copy protection kicking in. Even though your not copying the disk you just want it to play via hdmi cable to your TV

I got it to work using anydvd hd program plus this program will take over your dvd drive &blu-ray region setting so you can play disk from different region even if your region counter at 0

Yes I was very pleased with the price, saw it posted on hotukdeals.com and spent half hour browsing over various configurations. I went with the highest that was there at the time, they'd pulled the 16GB RAM option at the time I believe so none of them were available. It was only £60-80 more on the outlet to go from 2.0ghz to the 2.2ghz (and enabled VT if I use VMWare) and also increase from 4 > 8GB RAM which should buy me some time. Both options on the proper dell site were around £160 each!

I've got an Intel G2 160GB SSD in mine, can't recommend an SSD high enough so long as you can afford the expense. Makes everything so much more snappy. Not tried video editing on mine yet but it will be soon.

Chase: The people you are debating with are mainly in the UK I think. Under our regulations if the item isn't fit for purpose, we would be able to return it under that rule. I don't think you can expect an upgrade from an XPS > AW, personally I'd find it too heavy unless it's staying on a desk? The guy that did manage to get some upgrades did very well, I think politeness but firmness that you expect some compensation for time / effort / loss of productivity is not unreasonable and you should make that clear. Perhaps escalate to managers etc etc.

Good luck getting it resolved as it sounds like you've been unlucky. As someone else has said, if you have several bad screens either it's a bad batch or it could be another component that is causing the fault or is the underlying issue.

Also as above Dell ship so many systems that there are bound to be quite a few faulty ones, especially if you buy from the Outlet which have an increased likelihood of issues. The refurb systems are supposed to be as good as new as far as I'm aware with only the scratch and dent ones having the risk of physical issues to the case

Sam: Pretty sure you can upgrade to 3 years NBD support for around £170-180 ish, they were doing a special with a year free but not sure if that's still running. I want to take it out soon as it does sound like pretty decent cover.

Hi, I was thinking of getting the XPS. I just had 2 questions.

    1. If i order the 702x with one hard drive, will it come with the cable for the second or do i have to ask for it?

    2. I'd like 16GB but don't want to pay 300+ when i can get it for $80. If i order the 3D model with 6GB, will i get the motherboard that has 4 dimm slots or do i have to specifically order the 16GB to get the slots?

    Thank you!

As far as I know all 3D models have 4 dimm slots. Not sure about your first question because I already got laptop with 2 hard drives.
