To me, that's fair as long as the AW doesn't cost more than 1600 which is what I paid for my XPS.
This is a reply to all above - Everytime I went through the executive support team, I got a brand new replacement. In my sig, I started with the first system (1640) and got upgraded all the way to the 3D system for no charge. The only system that wasn't built new was the 1647 and that thing was a DOA. Someone put the proc in the wrong way and bent all the pins before it was sent to me

So it really depends on who you're talking to and how awesome your warranty is. I tell EVERYONE to get at least a 2 year warranty, if not 3. Totally worth it.

    My 2cents.

I can understand the guys who had faulty M1730's getting an Alienware because at the time that was Dell's comparable option where now Dell sells Alienware directly

There is NO reason for dell to replace an XPS 17 L702X with an Alienware Unless its four years from now and a person still has warranty and Dell doesn't make anything close to the XPS 17 at that point, which I could see happening.

Granted I did ask for an Alienware when getting a previous system replaced however that was only because of the 1920x1200 resolution which they didn't offer in anything else.

Thats good to know because I've always been told replacements will be 'refurbished'.

Also on the warranty side I've always went with Multi-Year (Usually End of Life) Next Business Day with Complete Care.

But I completely agree it is all about who you end up talking to which is crazy

Another thing I think makes a big differences is the fact that every few years Dell completely changes their model lines so that often times there is no direct replacement option so then it really depends on who you talk AND what was purchased originally.

I can agree with that. At first I really wanted an Alienware m17x in lieu of my SXPS16, but when they offered me the XPS17, I was still super happy. Not much of a difference between the two but I bet if I had gone with the Alienware, I wouldn't have nearly as much as I do now. (Specifically the 3D or a 460 in the AW). The 555m is comparable when overclocked so I'm very happy.

Oh and for the record, to get in touch with the executive support team, shoot an email to michael@dell.com. Usually a reply in 2-3 business days.

Also, could someone check out my thread here?

Did your part list include 3D glasses?

I was promised a pair of 3D glasses but I don't see them in the list. Did your system have the 3D glasses listed in the parts manifest Dell gave you? (For those of you with 3D systems)

    Thanks

Absolutely, Dell reps are sharks about warranties. That bad ones will completely ignore whatever you say and try to upgrade you. I had a tech at my house once and the rep ASKED THE TECH to speak with me.... just to try and upgrade my warranty when I'm still covered until Jan '13.

Also, the sooner you upgrade, the cheaper it will be. It gets up into the $200 range at short notice. (As far as I'm aware at least)

Well after a few days of banging my head against the wall I figured out why I wasn't able to upload anymore. I run my Startup as lean as I possibly can. I unchecked all the intel crap from loading. Don't uncheck iFrmwrk.exe from loading. For whatever reason it prevented me from uploading any file. All the other intel entries you can uncheck but don't touch that one..lol
