Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
After a fresh format, I just got a WEI graphics index score of 5.5 (memory was 5.5 too) - dosn't that seem a little odd?
Using the current WHQL drivers off the nVidia site (with the GT 555M). All the games I've found seem to be running at more or less the expected level of performance - sidenote, Heroes of Newerth does not play nice with the 555M at the moment, and supposedly won't until nVidia release new drivers.Last edited by Jyon; 29th April 2011 at 01:22 AM.

Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
Naive question: With all the discussion of driver related issues, are they generally just issues faced by those who decide to do a clean install or does everyone who gets a new computer have to worry about driver issues?
My concern is I don't know anything about it and want it to be as obvious and automatic as possible so I don't find myself faced with 'decisions' about what to install.

Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
flacoramos- +1 for your excellent pics. I always appreciate good teardown photos I hope others will also add to your rep for your work.
I recieve my non-3D XPS today also (as long as my wife stays home) and I hope to appreciate the screen as much as I enjoyed the 3D XPS screen.
Will post pics/video of the screen to help out.

Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
Thanks to all who recommended disk image programs. In the mean time I have True Image and Paragon free standby so the first thing to do next Monday when my laptop arrives is take out the hd and make an image on another PC.
B.t.w. I ordered this laptop on march 30th with a 6230 network card and haven't heard from Dell they were out of stock. So I am curious if I get one...

Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
For those of you who have used both 3D and non-3D (BOTH 1080P!) please share your opinions about the colors, 'pop', etc. My 1080p non-3D looks great so far, comparable to my (favorite) old inspiron 9400 1920x1200.
I might consider getting a 3D screen, but without seeing one first....

Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
Hey I got a Inspiron 9300 and a 9400 with the 1920x1200 screens also! I know what you mean about getting used to these awesome screens. I used the XPS 3D for like 17 days until I returned it. It was a pretty good it terms brightness (super bright) and resolution, but it does need some calibrating because the colors seemed too green.
I should be getting my non-3D XPS any moment now and will take side by side photos of the Inspiron 9300 next to the XPS 17 for comparison sake.

Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
Hi all! I recently received my XPS 17 with the 900p (1600X900) display which I am really regretting now! The viewing angles and brightness distribution are really terrible. Even sitting directly in front of the screen, the colors along the edges are distorted and I can't move my head more than 20-30 degrees from center line without 1/4 to 1/3 of the screen getting color distortion. Also, as you can see from the pic I attached the brightness distribution is really bad. It has a dark arch starting in both bottom corners and going up through the middle of the screen leaving the bottom middle and top corners brighter. This pic was taken with the lights turned off and a black image set to full screen on the display and the brightness set to about halfway between min and max. (sorry its grainy, it was taken with an iPhone camera). I love everything about the computer except the display! I am thinking about sending this computer back to Dell and getting the 1080p non-3D version. Has anyone seen both the 900p and 1080p non-3D screens? Will I (hopefully) see a major improvement by switching to the 1080p? Any help is greatly appreciated!
