Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
Can anyone with a 900p screen take a closer look (I mean really close) at it, when displaying dark grays (gradients, not solid grays) on black and confirm it doesn't have that static noise / snow / flickering as reported on Studio series last year? It's hard to explain it or show it on a pic or video...
I'd be very gratful for that
I ended up returning my Studio 1749 because of that issue. I really hope they use slightly better panels now...

Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
From what I can tell theres no static noise / snow, my eyes can see flicker but i think thats just the tn technology of the screen.
Using http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/ as ref.
It's a very bright screen, or can be, I only need to set it at 2 brightness but then i am always using it in a dark room.
I've check the power draw of my system in idle/surfing web 16-18 watt power draw! very nice
It's gonna pay for itself in electricity bills haha

Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
Thanks, Sewje, I might be able to check out the L701X with 900p in person on Saturday. I figure it has the same panel as the new L702X.
And thanks for that link - quite handy!

Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
Hi,
As I understand it, a 3D enabled XPS is not capable of optimus style switching between GPU and onboard graphic processing. Can someone tell me if thsi constraint also applies to WiDi?
Regards,
Dave

Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
For those who have a US rather than a UK keyboard: I have rung Dell and spoke to someone at the Ireland Customer Care centre. THey are going to collect my laptop at some point (they have not confirmed details yet) and give me my money back. I will then be allowed to either purchase a different configuration or completely go elsewhere. This is Dells mistake and if there are no backilit UK keyboards then they will have to refund because they cannot supply as ordered. Also, when I spoke to the Dell chap he was unaware of a backlit keyboard for the UK. I suspect that this option does not really exist. Also if you reorder now I see that Dell are doing a deal of fitting 6GB of RAm for the price of 4GB

Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
I guess they don't specifically have UK Layout backlit keyboards, but in order to meet demand for them they put the US one in and for some like myself, i don't mind as typing is not the most important to me, I'd like the UK one but I don't think they'll have it in stock or production yet.
But they shipped me 2 machines even tho I spoke to them to make sure I didn't have more than one order.... due to payment authorizations issues
2nd one is due for delivery today and some of you haven't even got yours, messed up world huh lol...Dell XPS 17 L702x

Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
lol this is the first time I've dealt with Dell and to be honest I should have sensed a circus outfit when I got multiple contradicting responses from online help whilst I was researching this laptop.
So I guess when we ordered a 'Backlit UK/Irish Qwerty Keyboard' what we were actually ordering was a 'Backlit US Qwerty Keyboard'
is everything else ok with it? I mean I hope I don't receive a pair of sunglasses instead of the 3D glasses
