Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
My XPS has also come with a US keyboard, and NOT UK. What the heck?!

Are all those that are saying they have received US keyboard layouts instead of UK also those that have ordered the backlit keyboards?

Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
FINALLY got my 702x in after a shipping snafu. initial thoughts:
temps are passable. yay for that. the cpu floats in the 38-45C range when idle; goes up to high 60s and early 70s under load. fan's a little loud, but nothing compared to my old asus g73.
keyboard has a little flex. it looks nice, but i prefer the keyboard on my 401x. i worry about crud getting under the keys.
the 900p screen is kinda buttcakes, and only SOMEWHAT better than the original 768p screen on my 401x, which was legendarily awful.
sound is AWESOME. boot time with an ssd is the sweet spanish tetas.
only two ram slots, near's i can tell -- there's room for four DIMMs, but it is missing clips on the bottom "slot" locations, and it LOOKS like there's something else obstructing them? why'd dell do this?

gonna start installing a few games, and put it through the furmark paces.
edit: anyone know what the part # for the six cell battery is?Last edited by bydoempire; 17th March 2011 at 01:48 AM.

Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
good god, divinity 2 dragon knight saga runs at a frame rate LITERALLY 1/3rd of what it runs on my l401x with a 425m, at the same settings. the l401x (at 1366x768) runs the game at a rock-solid 30 fps; the l702x (with the 555m, at 1600x900) is BARELY 10 fps with the same settings.
now for the question that worries me: is this the fault of the early drivers for the 555m, or is it the fault of optimus?
edit: bah, it was optimus. had to expressly add BOTH steam.exe -and- divinity2.exe to the RUN THIS WITH THE GPU apps list, despite setting optimus globally to ALWAYS use the 555m. at this point, optimus is a total waste and an irritation. ah well, runs like a champ, now!Last edited by bydoempire; 17th March 2011 at 03:24 AM.

Re: Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread
Just got mine. 2630qm, 6gb non-3d.
Mine has 2 ram slots. If anyone was wondering what hdd are used mine came with a seagate 7200.4.. quite a cheap one. Glad i've got my hybrid to put in!
The laptop build quality is superb. The inside is much nicer than the pics. Its a kind of dark grey.. looks amazing. I'm loving the sound quality!
I'm gonna bench this bad boy and post the results later. Also, i'm going to compare the dell vs nvidia drivers. We should start a thread for that!
