Hi i ve a problem . I bought an AUO from ebay, exctaclty the same model as stated in the first post; the seller send me an LG lgd0285 FHD and his staed that this is better. I did everything fine, and when i boot up the screen when entering in windows login (even archlinux login) stay in black color but lighted up and i can change the brightness. So i removed the nvidia module from arch and set to vesa and it goes up 1280x1024 resolution and i did the same in windpos, removing sall nvidia drivers and reboot. So, with the standard vga it boots up, in windows and in linx also and i can use the pc, but with a 1280*1024 resolution. If i use the nvidia driver, the last from laptop2video with modded inf, i can use the pc with hdmi monitor attached and i see that my laptop screen stay in black but i can chenge the resolution, and it goes uf 1920*1080. So, how i can solve? i have to order back the AUO?? thanks in advance and much apprecieted your answear

Sounds like there might be a problem with the driver, as the screen works with the VGA driver. Try using the last Dell display driver to see if it fixes it.

As for getting another screen than what you ordered, I would raise a stink. You are entitled to get what you ordered and not a screen that they claim is better.

Did you reconnect the wide connector on the rear properly? Maybe it is connected, but not ceompletely, so it can use VGA mode, but in a higher resolution it fails?

When you install the nVidia drivers (use clean mode) does the driver show the 1920x1080 resolution for the laptop panel? If it does, then the hardware is correctly identified and the panel might be defective. But also check the connector at the rear. It really needs to 'snap' into place.



I reconnected the connector by sliding it in place, and than pulling on the plastic sticky tape, to force it back in place.

Also, what is the type number on the back of the panel? I cannot find specs for LGD0285. Mine says MONITOR\AUO149D, but it is a B173HW01 V.4, so to look up the specs (and verify compatability) we need the number on the back of your panel, Probably something like LP173W??-TL??

If the screen is 17.3", LED backlit and the connector is in the lower left corner, it should work. I don't think your panel is incompatible.

and windows says the ...85 driver generic. that's all!

OK I don't want to offend you, just making sure everything is correct.

Could you mention the model name on the white sticker at the back of the panel? This was we can create a 'database' of panels that do and ones that do not work.

No problem i took as no OFFENCE...just a little bit nervous for incompetence of people who sell ..

i'll try to reorder the AUO as stated in the first post...but have you a better place where to take this screen??

I ordered mine from Studio Technology in Taiwan

The panels are cheaper than eBay, but shipping and other costs make the total price higher than eBay, but you do get what you order!

It is hard to say, but I think the panel might be defective, or there might be a problem in the software installation for the driver.

You should download the 266.44 driver that is mentioned in this post in the Driver thread. Then install it and choose the option to remove all previous nVidia drivers.

Then it should work. If it doesn't you could try to boot with your external monitor, and try to see what the highest resolution Windows will show for the panel. If it at least shows 1920x1080 I think the panel is defective.

I am not 100% sure on this procedure, but from reading the specs for your panel I think it should be compatible.

This is definately not a better panel though. You can compare the specs in these two documents:

LG LP173WF1-TL-C1

AUO B173HW01 V.4

The LG has much narrower viewing angles, and also a smaller colour gamut (72% vs 90%). So you might contact the seller and let them know this panel is not better (and it doesn't even work).
