Re: **Official Dell XPS M1530 Owner's Lounge** - *Part 2*
After one of my motherboard replacements for overheating I was getting no sound over HDMI. Did loads of software/driver stuff, reinstalling windows etc no luck. Dell replaced the motherboard and problem was instantly fixed.
So, if she's never tried to use it before it could just be dead like mine was.
Edit: When mine -was- working, I just plugged it into the TV with HDMI cable, then right clicked the speaker icon in lower right corner, clicked playback devices, selected HDMI and clicked "set as default". After doing this I would have to close and reopen any programs (e.g. browser/itunes) that I wanted sound from on the TV, but did not have to restart the laptop.

Re: **Official Dell XPS M1530 Owner's Lounge** - *Part 2*
Thank you all so much for your help...
Since your HDMI works, can you tell me which relevant devices appear on your Device Manager and which drivers they have ?
-Video Adapter & version (mine is 285.62 on 8400M GS)
-Sigmatel High Definition Audio Codec (6.10.0.5614 Version) under Sound, Video & game Controllers
-High Definition Audio Controller under System Devices (though vendor ID shows 8086 -> Intel)
Thank you again.

Re: **Official Dell XPS M1530 Owner's Lounge** - *Part 2*
Hey all - not sure where to post this.... but I had a system exchange on my m1530 and have two power adapters (one oem and one 3rd party) and a hi cap battery (3rd party) that I would like to sell. PM me off list if anyone is interested and sorry if this isn't the right place.

Re: **Official Dell XPS M1530 Owner's Lounge** - *Part 2*
So my XPS 1530 has been near completely silent for the past (nearly) four years. But just today I noticed my fan was running and the computer was feeling a little warm (not unusual) and I blew into the rear vent hole (not unusual for me) to see if it had gotten dusty. Almost immediately it started making a sound it has never made before, a high-pitched whirring noise that is really freaking annoying. Anyone else have this issue? I do have about a month of warranty left so I'm going to see if I can get it fixed, but I'm not sure what they'd be fixing.. This has been a very reliable laptop to this point and I guess I should feel lucky to have gotten as much use out of it as I have, but I'm not ready to replace it just yet.

just poking my nose back in here. odd to see all the complaints of overheating. I put some artic silver ceramique on the CPU and GPU, undervolted the processor and massively overclocked my 8600m (I had a solid 50% boost on ram and gpu) and it still is cool and quiet. my brother uses it now but it still is soldering on :-).

Re: **Official Dell XPS M1530 Owner's Lounge** - *Part 2*
Hi Guys! My borther has an XPS M1530 (with the Nvidia 8600 GT), bought in October 2008. Today, when boot up, it becomes showing green artifacts and it won't boot, even if you connect an external monitor... I think that video card is broken... Avoiding oven trick, is there a way to fix it? Maybe I can extend guarantee calling Dell?
Thanks beforehand for support and sorry for my awful English...

I called Dell and just extended warranty until October 2012 for 165€... In the middle of the next week I'll contact them again for replacing the motherboard...
