XPS M1730 lagging issues?
Hi you all,
I just purchased a system of M1730 with the best options for all parts, but now I'm having a really annoying problem which is the occasional lag both in the OS desktop (when on messenger, internet, or just managing folders) and when gaming This can be noticed by the slow, noticeable performance and cracking sound (lasts about 1-2 seconds but it happens very often).
This has been happening since the first day i got it, which is yesterday...
Does anyone have any suggestions? I have tried uninstalling + reinstalling most drivers, but still no improvement at all... I have also uninstalled all unneeded software and scanned my system for any virus or malware like 10 times already!

Re: XPS M1730 lagging issues?
You may try reinstalling Vista with the DVD that came with the laptop as this is an actual Vista DVD and not a recovery DVD so you can do a fresh installation with it. I did this on my M1730 just to get rid of any bloatware, but mine has been working fine for the 4 months I have had it so far.
Desktop - AMD Phenom II X6 1090T, Gigabyte GA-880GA-UD3H, 16Gigs Patriot G2 DDR3, EVGA GTX560 SC w/2Gigs of Memory, Seagate 250Gig, 2 x Hitachi 1TB HDD's
Gaming Laptop - Dell XPS M1730 Saphire Blue, Win7 X64, X9000 CPU @ 3.4Ghz @ 1.375V core, 4Gigs Memory, 8800GTX SLI, 2 x 500Gig 72k Hitachi Hdd's in Raid 0 mode, Sony BD RE.

Sorry, I'm kinda of a newbie here, but how do you reinstall vista on M1730?
Can you guide me briefly on how to do it? Do I have to format my Windows and will i lose any files (which means I have to back up some files first)?

Re: XPS M1730 lagging issues?
Before you reinstall Vista, try disabling SLI. Depending on the game you are playing and your driver version, you are going to see some lag in older games.
Example: I installed TF2 when I first unboxed the lappie and found lag/jerky mouse movements with SLI enabled. Disabling it and running on a single GPU cleared it up.
Now, playing TF2 using 175.19 from nvidia. SLI enabled and I am able to play at max res with all settings on High/Very High. No issues.
Prior to 175.19, didn't matter which driver I used. Lag was evident.
You are probably going to ask me how to install 175.19 since it tells you you cant install it on your system. You have to force it - see this post: http://forum.notebookreview.com/show...30#post3528730

I also have occasional lags on my M1730 although I have reformatted. They last about 1-2 seconds too but not very frequent, more like once in an hour or 2.

Re: XPS M1730 lagging issues?
You should not need to "fix" this yourself. Why do you not call Dell ?
If it is brand new it should not be doing this...
Lagging in games maybe down to a graphics driver, but if yours is doing it all the time I would suggest it has something fundamentally wrong going on.
You could always return it and get get a new one.......M17x-r3 | i7-2760QM | Nvidia Gtx 580m | 8 Gb Ram | 256 Gb SSD | 750 gb 7200 | Killer Wireless n | 1920 x 1080

Re: XPS M1730 lagging issues?
I think it's almost the same before and after reformatting. Still have that occasional lag spike, but it didnt really bothered me. I don't remember them happening when I'm in the OS desktop (except shortly after startup, but no more after). As far as I remember, I have only noticed them during gaming. So, I thought it could be normal to have occasional lag spike (while playing Supreme Commander - Forged Alliance with native resolution 1920x1200, everything High, and AA at 4x). But dont recall happening while playing Company of Heroes. I think I will start to take notice when it happens. If it happens frequently, I will contact DELL. If it happens only in certain games, then I'll leave it. I have not been playing alot recently (rushing on class assignments).
