    Default Dissapointed with my XPS

My Dell XPS M1710 arrived today witht he following specs:

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7400 Processor (2.16GHz,667MHz,4MB L2 cache)

    2048MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x1024]

    160GB (5400RPM) SATA Hard Drive

    512MB DDR3 nVidia® GeForce™ Go 7950 GTX graphics card

    Vista Installed

I installed Oblivion, and i have to say that i was very dissapointed with the performance, even at medium settings there were many framerate hitches. I was told in prior posts that games would run well, but i just dont seem to be getting that impression from this laptop. Any advice on improving performance without sacrificing graphical quality?

    Thanks.

In correction to what i said above, i found that i received this bad performance issue because i wasnt plugged into the mains with the powerpack. Does being plugged in really make such a significant difference? It made a HUGE difference for me.

    Return it, and get M1730.

And yes, the system has to be plugged in in order for the GPU unit to run at it's full power.

Check your power settings. Ordinarily when you're on battery the system won't run at the full processor speed in order to save battery life.

I don't think this is true. As the previous poster said, just change the power settings.
