The $2,999 version looks decent. But, it would be much better for them to add a HD-DVD or Blu-Ray than the Physics Card. Since, the SLI 8700M GT is still not too powerful, and won't be able to play games that will use a physics card other than the ones already on the market.

It also lacks a wireless N...

Over the last days I've read quite a few posts concerning the battle between 7950GTX and the 8700GT in order to figure out whatever I should go for a XPS 1710 with a 7950GTX or wait for the XPS 1730. This was all dependent on whatever the 1730 would simply have the 8700GT (then I would go with the XPS 1710 and the 7950GTX as performance is most important to me and as I will only be stuck with the laptop for 1-2 years before buying a new one) or perhaps the rumoured 8700GTX or a 8800M card ... as it turns out to be dual 8700GT in SLI I'm a bit unsure...

The graphics power from such a setup will likely perform equal to or better than a single 7950GTX, however, dual graphics cards will yield less time on battery power - but how much?

Is it possible to turn of one card - say while using the laptop for other things than gameing and running on battery power?

As I'm ordering through work I'm stuck with Dell ... so what do you think? Still go for the 1710 with the 7950GTX or get the 1730 with a dual 8700 setup?

    Thanks for any help

If cost is not a concern, the 1730 is really much more powerful,
I believed it's about double the price of 1710 tough...

Hey, I found something interesting. In that "eyecandy" shot of the M1730, I saw that the one facing the other way on the left had a dark grey/black keyboard. That thing is still ugly though, I could design a better laptop. I think they sould have gone for M1330 styling (of course bigger) and that would have been much better IMHO.

hmm.... it seems like Dell did include some thoughts that ppl had
Im pretty sure there will be a dark colored keyboard cuz theres enough evidence to prove that.

It still looks like a bag of spanners compared to the M1330. Which is a shame.

what you get for the base price isn't bad at all considering its an XPS.
