Our XPS M1330 is still going strong. It's my wife's main machine at one of our other residences. It has integrated graphics so no heat issues. I have been giving some consideration to getting her one of the new Lenovo Ultrabooks when they come out.

Weird. Got the email notification that there was a reply by a guy who linked to a repair page for this laptop... guess it was deleted? Why on earth would someone spend $300 to fix this old laptop anyways??

One m1330 still alive and kicking here, although mobo has been replaced 3-4 times, screen once (it kinda happened to drop to the floor..)... actually I think they replaced the whole machine at one point, when battery got stuck. With 8400GS ofc.

Temperatures are running wild, eventhough it is undervolted. (1.0375V @ 2.5Ghz, 0.95V @ 1.25Ghz) Battery is completely dried out (15min max) and dvd burner works with every 1/10 disk. 3 Year warranty just expired few weeks ago, so might as well do the copper mod. (never done to this machine) Havent used it for gaming, but stressed the cpu with football manager a lot..

But still it works, and the Dell service was really good all that time. And I really like the thing.. but now faced with a decision whether to buy a new battery or new ultrabook.. even with new battery this wont achieve 4h+ and new ones are promising 8ish...

Haven't posted in here in awhile. Got my m1330 along with many others in this forum at launch in 9/07. Had mobo replaced twice, and LED replaced twice in the first 2 years. Since then, 3 year warranty has expired and I have subsequently altered my usage. I still keep it on 24/7 and use it as my primary PC, but I no longer game at all with it. I do still keep up my routine of cleaning out the dust every 6 months, and doing a clean restore every year. Other than the fan running loud during photo editing, I have not had any issues with the machine since 2009, and hope to use it as my primary computer for at least 2 more years.

    Quick Q.

My fan has started sounding like it's grinding recently. Could be the bearings are starting to wear out?

Could be. Open up the access panel on the bottom and flick the fan with your finger to see if it spins freely or not.

If it doesn't, you should get a new fan before this one craps out and your CPU/GPU gets fried.

I had this issue on my M1330 as well about 6 months back and called Dell even though things weren't under warranty any longer. The fan would spin fine but was just rattling oddly even after a good cleaning. Dell shipped me a new fan and heatsink assembly (probably due to ongoing 8400GS issues) and I swapped it out. No more issues.

I'd call Dell and see if they will do the same. You could also probably pick an assembly up on eBay pretty cheap.

    Hello guys,

It's been a while since my last post on this forum, so don't murder me if my question was answered before.

I got the M1330 as a work laptop and I'm really happy with it, I even ditched the opportunity to get a completely new computer when I saw this black beauty in almost untouched brand new condition just sitting there at our office.

I put a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium x64 on it, with all of the latest drivers and software and everything works great as it should...except one thing:
See, my personal Inspiron 1520 is running the same OS (except it's "Professional" and not "Home Premium"), it has almost the same HW inside and what's most important, it has this great feature in it's Quickset settings called "extended battery life" - which sets the power saving mode after I unplug the laptop from power, switches the windows color scheme from "aero" to "basic" and few more things. And I can't get any of this to appear on my XPS laptop.
Do any of you have an idea why?

I often switch from adaptor to battery power, so this would be really helpful, now I'm using the "balanced" profile, which kinda does the job, but it's just not "it".

I really appreciate any advice, and just to be absolutely clear on what we're dealing with, here are the specs of my M1330:
    Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 2,2GHz
    2GB DDR2 RAM
    200GB 7200rpm HDD
    DVD-RW
    W-LED backlit display
9 cell battery with 65W power adaptor
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
Quickset version 9.6.6 64bit - the same as on my Inspiron 1520.

    Thanks for answers.
