Someone named "Susan" posted this on the direct2dell.com blog (The "Inspiron Delays" topic). Normally I wouldn't post something from someone else, but this seems particularly relevant to the Pink Inspirons.

So, my second post. I was really hoping Dell would come through this weekend and ship my laptop on its date of 9/4. I only called the order line once on Saturday and it said that it was still in the build stage. I thought ok, they have a lot to get done (testing, boxing) on a holiday weekend. Well this morning I get to work and check the status page, still says shipping of 9/4 and in the production phase. Not looking good. So I call the status line and get... "build stage" however now my estimated ship date has disappeared from the status line. (still ok online). So onto Dell chat I go...

I ordered an inspiron 1721 on July 15. The ship date was 8/6, 8/28, now 9/5. If the computer isn't shipped tomorrow, I will cancel since my daughter, who is a freshman in college, needs it to do her schoolwork. I tried to post on the Dell2Dell website and found my post, and possibly any new negative posts about Dell, did not appear.

It is official now (received this the morning of 9/5, the "magic" date):

Due to unforeseen circumstance, we have experienced another delay with your order number xxxxxxxxx. Our new anticipated ship date will be on or before 9/12/2007. Due to this additional delay, the Federal Trade Commission requires we receive your consent to continue with this order else we will be forced to cancel the order automatically.

First of all, unforeseen by whom? I think WE all knew it was coming.

Second: Buh-bye Dell! Can you say "cancel"?

I have officially canceled. Thanks everyone on here for the info and the support during the wait time.

Oh well, it would have been a nice laptop I think. Too bad they didn't really exist.

For those of you still waiting on pink (mine is canceled now), here is what the CSR told me when I canceled this morning (Sept 5th, 8:30 AM US Eastern). Apparently the delay reason du jour is "LCD cover on backorder".

Agent : "Thank you for contacting Dell Customer Service Chat. My name is Anshu. How may I help you?+"
bobrob: "I want to cancel my order"
Agent : "I will check that for you."
Agent : "Please confirm the reason why you want to cancel this order."
bobrob: "Five missed shipping dates and another delay message this morning."
Agent : "As a consumer myself I can certainly understand your position. I will also feel the same way if I had to face such situation."

*** Note, this is apparently a hotkey on the chat line, I've seen this line several times

Agent : "I apologize for any inconvenience this matter caused."
bobrob: "sure"
Agent : "Bob, the reason is that the LCD cover is on backorder."
bobrob: "don't care don't care don't care"
bobrob: "which, by the way, another csr told me yesterday there were no delays, all the parts were here, and it would ship on the 5th"
Agent : "Do I have your final authorization to cancel this order?"
bobrob: "yes, final authorization to cancel this order is given"
Agent : "I apologize for the miscommunication."
Agent : "I will cancel the orders for you."

*** 50 Day Anniversary ***

Tomorrow will be my 40 day anniversary. Last week when my hubby talked to a CSR she guaranteed that it would be in my hands by September 11. They even gave us a free printer. (We'll see if we actually get it). But, according to the automated line it is still in the build stage. So, I'm not holding my breath about having it on Tuesday. I've been looking at the pink Sony VAIOs, but the screen is so much smaller and I'm kind of looking forward to having the number pad that only comes with the 17" computers. I'm a bookkeeper and I use the number pad alot. So, come Monday, we're going to see if it ships like they said it would, then we're going to make a decision about cancelling. I might have my hubby call CSR today to see what's going on. I'll keep you posted.

@ Jackie... I looked @ the Sony also... almost 3 inches smaller is a big difference. My current laptop is an Inspiron 9200 with a 17 inch screen, I definitely don't want to go backwards... I'm still in the build stage as well...
