Re: Dell Laptop Order Stages Wiki
Very good informative post.
Seems like the perfect dell order. Swift and to clockwork.
How unfortunate that it's rare to see that happening on this forum:
Pre-Production: This stage has been confirmed to be before Kitting/Build Stages. It's likely this is a design stage or the stage in which parts are verified to be in stock. It's rare this option shows up,so watch the website (seems to be the most accurateArgh...gonna have a heart attack if boxing is the longest stage.Boxing: Even though this stage seems the longest,
I hope shipping date ≠ date of delivery. If so. I'm forked if there's a "carrier can be next day". Haha, stupid me ordering last minute with dell. The actual "ship" date from the carrier can be the next day if it's late in the day, but just keep your fingers crossed that your shipping date is accurate.XPS M1710 (i miss this thing)

Re: Dell Laptop Order Stages Wiki
Can you please state how long the actual production of the laptop should be once they have all the parts ready (Build-Testing)? Because, a CSR told me that once they have the parts ready it would only take one day to build. (The CSR lied, they never got the Yellow paint ready)...

Nice wiki but for DELL India the Order Status page shows completely different terms though....

Re: Dell Laptop Order Stages Wiki
I think you would have got the Quotation number in your quotation sent to you by email and that will also probably contain the customer number as well.... Those two should be enough to see your order status....

Re: Dell Laptop Order Stages Wiki
I ordered a Dell Vostro 1700 on 9/12/07 and as of an hour ago I'm still in 'In Production - Build' mode. The estimated ship date is tomorrow (9/19/07) but I can't see that happening since they haven't even finished building the stupid thing yet. Argh! Any chance Dell's system is just screwed up and they're already on the boxing stage?

Placed order for Inspiron 1720 (Alpine White) on 4/8/07 and shipping date is expected to be 5/7/08. Currently, it's in boxing stage. This is radiculous.

Re: Dell Laptop Order Stages Wiki
the "build" part actually doesn't take all that long. Technically, the build part just consist of them taking all the parts and plugging them into place. For example, the bezel, the CPU, memory, DVD rom and connecting all the wires together. Burning takes an hour and a half or so if I remember correctly.
By far the largest delays in Dell are parts shortages. Because it's a JIT (Just in Time) supply system, the SUPPLIERS are responsible for picking up the slack as demand rises. Dell keeps a very very small inventory, just enough for the orders it has. Now if demand rises faster than the suppliers can keep up, this is where delays come in. And this is the curse of the JIT system. If you can't anticipate demand accurately, you are faced with huge delays as suppliers typically don't have the facilities to "ramp" up production.Dell Inspiron 1420 HP tz2500 Tablet PC Lenovo X200T Dell XT2 x 2
