    Hi,
I have got my XPS 1330 yesterday and had few questions regarding the battery and hard drive.
I have ordered 4 cell but due to compatibility issues with my video card looks like Dell has sent me 6 cell instead. I am not completely sure because one of the reps said it is 6 cell and other one said its still 4 cell. So, is there a way to find out (by looking at battery or control panel ) the kind of battery I have ?
Secondly, my hard drive was supposed to be 120 Gb but when I add up both C drive and recovery drive it adds up to 110 gb only. Is this common or Am I missing something ?
These questions might sound naive to some but I have minimum knowledge abt computers. So please help.
    Thanks in advance

Kentuckian, take the battery out and look for either of these numbers on the sticker:

37Whr - This means you got the 4-cell
56Whr - This means you got the 6-cell

Other than that I'm not sure how you'd tell?

If it's the same as the 1210, Dell actually partitioned for media direct, and another partition for dell recovery, that's y there's some missing gb. Hope this helps. Can't wait to get mine on Thursday.

They will annotate your file, issue an exchange authorization code for their computer management, and send it to the CSRs who order the system.
The system is brand new. It can be ordered only through approval of Tech Support.
Make sure you get an order number to track it.
these systems are built and shipped priority.

This has been done several times now here and has happened with me personally. I am very familiar with this process because, as a result of my system, I got to know the exchange person in Canada who has helped me a number of times. There is only one person who does this job here for the XPS line.

Call XPS Support back at anytime to check on it; I always believe its comforting to confirm that your situation has been addressed and is on the customer file.
Hey Flamenko, i find this info quite helpful.. i'm considering trying an exchange myself to perhaps get a quieter system. I just have one question, does dell charge you for the system until it is returned? I recently had a replacement battery sent to me, and i just realized that my dell account shows I've been charged for it. (I'm going to chat with a rep about that now to make sure the charge goes away once the receive the battery i sent back). But yeah if they're going to charge my card another $1550, i don't think i have that much credit right now.
    Thanks.

No and I would be surprised on that charge they put through; are you sure they just didnt put a hold on the funds???

They dont charge you for the replacement. You have a certain number of days after it is received to decide which is bedt than you must return one system. If you dont, they will bill you for that non-returned system.

And I dont believe they put a hold on funds on a system exchange... that would be kind of odd.

What kind of shipping do you have, Rellin? And do they say to expect it tomorrow, or in a few days?

THere are couple of hidden partitions totalling about 2.5gb, but that's not the main issue. Harddrive manufacturers calculate drive capacity differently from how the rest of the world (your OS) does it. So what HDD manufacturer calls 120gb drive is actually around 112gb drive in the real world. It's just marketing gimmick. For more details, visit Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hard_disk

ok so this is what happened: called tech support yesterday, they spoke to CSR (which is a great thing because CSR are from a different planet and dont speak human language) so a tech support guy would explain everything to them in a Dell speak language and he did this while keeping me on the line (a three way conversation)

today i got a call from my original CSR (there is no getting away from them)
and he said that Dell have ordered a new system for me and my new order number is ****** and the estimated date of delivery is........

    wait for it.......

    FIRST WEEK OF OCTOBER

I really lost it after that, i've never been so angry on anyone on the phone. after repeating the whole nightmare experience i've been through (and most of you as well) I asked for compensation and he offered me stupid options

1.) cancel the order and we'll refund you the money (ofcourse you will refund the money god damn it! what do i get for waiting for 45 frigging days??so no.)
2.)keep the laptop as it is (without FP reader) and i'll give you £120 off (almost $240 at the current rate). once again why did i wait for 45 days to get something which is not to my specification? and i have my heart set on FP reader, no matter how useless it actually is in real life. so no again

after some more heated debate he said he will give me a free USB key/drive thing on top of £120. ?? a cheap puny USB key which i can buy for £10 here and probably never gonna use.

i gave up on him and he gave up on me, so i told him to get me his manager and he said he will get him to call me back. i am not gonna let this go easily. lets see what happens.
