M4600 OS-reinstall guide
There is a similar thread here for the M6600 - but since many of us have the M4600 and might find Dells driver download page more than just confusing I decided to create a list of what drivers to install in which order.
Please bear with me, this is a work in progress: any users who find an error - please point it out to me!
The list has been created with the "Dell E-Family How-To Reimage Guide " (found under "System Utilities" tab) which includes a much more specified list regarding the Precision series.
1: Chipset: Insta_A04_R304291_setup_ZPE.exe
2: Chipset: ME7_Unified_SW_Installer_R311171_ZPE.exe
3: Chipset: NEC_USB-3-0_A01_R292027.exe
(I skipped the Intel Identity Protection Technology driver)
4: System Utilities: Dell_System-Software_A03_R282538.exe
5: (optional)System Utilities: APP_WIN_R312092.EXE - this is the feature enhancement pack. If you don't install it you won't see the volume/brightness settings displayed on your screen when you use the hotkeys.
6: Drivers for OS Deployment: O2Micro-_OZ600XXX-Memory-Car_A01_R300787.exe -the guide mentions that the MediaMemoryCard/Smartcard Controller drivers should be in the Chipset section though.
7: Serial ATA: INTEL_RAPID-STORAGE-TECHNOLO_A07_R291722.exe
8: Video: The guide recommends installing the Intel Media adapter graphics driver before installing the driver for the discrete GPU (Quadro or FirePro)
the standard driver is: Intel_multi-device_A09_R307994.exe
I also found INTEL_MULTI-DEVICE_A08_R301733.exe - however, I have no idea which one is the correct one. I went with the first.
9: Video: VIDEO_DRVR_WIN_R316049.EXE (for the Quadro cards)
10: Audio: IDT_92HDXXX-HD-AUDIO_A03_R297613.exe
11: Network: Intel_825xx-Gigabit-Platform_A02_R313802.exe
one could install dell control point software now according to the guide. I skipped it.
12: network: NIC_DRVR_WIN_R292654.EX (wirless-lan)
13: network: R296919.EXE (bluetooth)
14: Input: DELL_MULTI-TOUCH-TOUCHPAD_A10_R315893.exe (I also found DELL_MULTI-TOUCH-TOUCHPAD_A09_R311554.exe, but I really couldn't find which one is now really correct. I went with A10).
15: Application: ST-MICROELECTRONICS_FREE-FAL_A10_R309372.exe
Note: some dell installers require the Microsoft Net Framework to be installed.
This is what I chose, however - based upon your configuration you might need other drivers.
If you found it fishy that I skipped Intel Identity Protection manager, Dell control point (+security) software - please let me know. I'm not quite sure what I need it for....

Re: M4600 OS-reinstall guide
Thanks man

Although I'd really like some people to check my list and see if I left out anything that's necessary (Intel Identity Protection and Dell Control Point...)

Re: M4600 OS-reinstall guide
with that, do you have any devices in device manager showing drivers are missing?

Re: M4600 OS-reinstall guide
Yes, the (in my case, non existing) smartcard reader driver. After installing the matching Dell driver "DDPA_drivers_A03_R308498" all is fine.
However, I didn't install the middleware or the software.
A problem came up now though. I am not sure if this is because I upgraded to Bios version A10 or from dicking around with Data protection software.
Now when booting, before the BIOS loads DELL PreBoot Manager searches for a fingerprint reader. Since I have none intalled it takes up 2 seconds for it to realize that and the normal boot sequence continues.
Any idea how to deactivate that?
thanks!

Re: M4600 OS-reinstall guide
I would think that you can disable that "feature" through the BIOS under misc devices.

Re: M4600 OS-reinstall guide
You don't need to install the Intel GMA driver if you have a Firepro.

Re: M4600 OS-reinstall guide
You'll need the webcam driver/software if your machine has one. Last time I looked the webcam driver wasn't easily available from Dell though.
I appreciate the guide, should make life easier!
