Re: Vostro 3350 Owner's Cafe
Agreed. My only complaints are that the battery selection is horrible (4-cell or 9-cell? why not an option for 6?) and that it's a tad heavy and thick for a 13" unit.
But then again, the price is hard to beat for a 13"!Dell XPS 15 L502x: i7-2760QM | 8GB | Nvidia GT540M (dGPU) + Nvidia GTX 650 Ti (eGPU)| B+RGLED | 750GB | Intel 6230+BT | BD-ROM

Re: Vostro 3350 Owner's Cafe
Now that I've had this laptop for almost a month, and swapped in a 128GB SSD, I must say I'm pretty pleased with it. The 9cell sticking out and the fan noise are still the top two complaints I have. But I'll live with the battery since it has incredible battery life, and I'll have to use my headphones more to drown out the fan noise, considering the internal speaker is by far the worst I've had on a laptop. Other than those gripes, this thing is nice and compact but packs a lot of awesome in it.

Re: Vostro 3350 Owner's Cafe
Hi,
Iam actually seraching for a current (hybrid) graphic driver.
There is one available named "leshcat hybrid driver"
Here: Universal Driver set for all Switchable (Intel/ATI) Graphics!
Unfortunately the server is down, could someone mirror the 12.4 version?

Re: Vostro 3350 Owner's Cafe
Sorry to bring up the topic of CPU temps again, but my i5-2430M in my Vostro 3350 has a pretty large difference in temperature between the two cores. One is typically a 8 - 10 degrees C hotter than the other. Is this normal? This is measured using HWMonitor by the way.

Re: Vostro 3350 Owner's Cafe
Hey guys,
Thanks again for the advice earlier in the thread. Hope it's ok if I post this here. I just had my Vostro 3350 battery and keyboard replaced under warranty this week and I'm noticing that I really don't need a big 8-cell battery anymore. I always have my adapter nearby now.
If anyone would like to buy a Dell 8-cell battery with a few days of use on it, just let me know. Retails new for $169
I'd also trade for a 4-cell in great condition+cash or a good SSD.
Thanks.

Re: Vostro 3350 Owner's Cafe
In general I like this laptop. But looks like hdd is overheated. I use SIW to read temperature sensors and compare to another laptop I've ( HP ProBook 6460b, i5 2520 sandybridge with 4GB ram and Toshiba MK5061GSYN 500gb drive). Now, same load and usage, say I start Vmware with 1 VM running on both, some Office 2010 stuff, web.
Long story short, SIW reports up to 50'C on 3350 (ST9500423AS) vs up to 44'C for Toshiba drive on HP probook. Palm resting area, right down side in on fire...
BTW, my 3350 is with i3 2330, 4GB ram. Dual boot Win7 sp1 and Ubuntu 12.04. For some reason, in Ubuntu I felt less heat, can't explain why.
Yeah, upgraded with last Seagate firmware from Dell site. Same.
Anyone experienced these issues?

Re: Vostro 3350 Owner's Cafe
I have a similar configuration as you (i3-2310, 6GB RAM), and also run VMs.
I can say that I have never found my HDD to heat up enough to cause discomfort while using it. The few times I've checked the temps, it was never above ~40-45C, even with VMs running.Dell XPS 15 L502x: i7-2760QM | 8GB | Nvidia GT540M (dGPU) + Nvidia GTX 650 Ti (eGPU)| B+RGLED | 750GB | Intel 6230+BT | BD-ROM
