To my surprise, he used metal screwdrivers to pry certain pieces here and there. When he got the panel removed, he rested the edge that had metal pieces directly on the keyboard and on the plastic trim above the keyboard to remove some screws. I tried to stop him, but it was too late.
Of course, sharp metal caused scratches on the plastic trim above the keyboard. I pointed that out to him, and he said, “Did I cause those scratches?” This M6600 was a new one from the outlet, in mint shape with the clear protector over the Dell emblem, so yeah dude, you put the scratches there .
He offered to move the Intel CPU and Windows stickers from the palm rest to the plastic bezel to hide the scratches. I declined. He said if he had his dremel tool, he would polish them out. Huh? That would not work. He also said he used windex to clean screens. Huh? Windex?

    Not a good day.
Contact Dell. Tell them what happened. They should ship you replacement parts. This happened with my father in law's Alienware.

I imagine that we will be waiting for the M6700 to see Ivy Bridge CPUs.

The time between the release of the M6500 and M6600 was unusually long (almost 1.5 years?). The normal release cycle is just over a year (13-15 months). If that holds, we'd see the M6700 introduced in early-mid summer. Keep in mind I am speculating here, Dell has not mentioned the M6700 at all.

Did he replace the whole assembly as in the auo panel and ntrig touch component or only the touch component

If its the latter meaning only the touch then it seems possible that a custom touch IPS could work

and I am wondering if IPS touch will ever be a factory option in the future
The touch panel comes already attached to the LCD panel. Its replaced as a unit.

He is in his 60's and is usually the top DPS in an end game raiding World of Warcraft guild. He puts that laptop through hell.

I let him try an M6600 for a few days and he liked it better than his R17x. Said the M6600 was faster, had less lag, had a brighter screen, and weighed less. He was comparing an original R17x, so was not really a fair fight.

    The latest on M6600 with 2760QM, 2860QM, & 2960XM in U.S. Dell Small Business:

You can configure an M6600 with any of these processors only if you choose the configurations with the discounts of $619 and $604.

DELL WILL NOT LET YOU CHOOSE A 2860QM (or a 2760QM or a 2960XM) WITH THEIR $827 DISCOUNT. WHY NOT DELL?

If you choose the configuration with the $619 discount, you can choose:
    - - the 2860QM, the 2760QM, or the 2960XM processors
-the FHD 1920x1080 display for an additional $85 (which is my strong preference)
    - However, under the $619 discount, you cannot choose two 750 7200 rpm Hard Drives (my strong preference) and you do not get the better $827 discount.

If you choose the configuration with the $604 discount, you can choose:
    - the 2860QM, the 2760QM, or the 2960XM processors
    - However, with this discount, you CANNOT choose the FHD 1920x1080 display
    - Under this discount, you must choose between the 1600x900 display, the PremierColor IPS RGB for an additional $550, or the 1920x1080 display with Multi-Touch/Stylus for an additional $350

If you choose the configuration with the $827 discount:
    - you can choose all of the options available for the M6600 EXCEPT FOR the 2760QM, 2860QM, or the 2960XM.
    - WHY DOES DELL NOT MAKE THESE PROCESSORS AVAILABLE WITH THE $827 DISCOUNT ALONG WITH THE OTHER M6600 OPTIONS (such as all of the screen options, and all of the hard drive options, not to mention all of the RAM and video card options)?

Why are you doing this to your customers Dell?

Just live with it. It's probably a glitch. There is no need to make 3 posts with the same contents, it's only been like a day the 60qm series have even been introduced at all to the small business sector.

It will eventually be sorted out.
