Re: M6600 Owners Thread
Just an update/FYI to those who are interested in the previous discussion (~pg 222) --> Swapping a M8900 to a slower Quadro 3000M for Optimus (in my case) or a 4000M like Scott has done. I have completed my and it was a success. I love it... Got my Quadro 3000M (untested) from eBay and it is running and kicking in my M6600. Battery life so far (less than a day) is a lot better in my case compared to my old M8900; as expected. I will need to find a day out after thanksgiving to really test drive the battery life.
BTW, my Dell Thermal Pad (UP755), ordered from eBay never came and I cant wait anymore. So, I used my AS5 from 2-3 years ago and everything looks good.
There was also a discussion that the heat-sink, bracket, back-panel, etc is diff from a M8900 vs 3000M even after Scott confirmed that it work from a M8900 to 4000M. Well, this is to confirmed that M8900 to 3000M is similar and works.
Also, I don't know if it is a placebo effect for me but I thought that the fan is a little quieter for me with a 3000M compared to a M8900 with external monitors connected thru HDMI/DP (3000M GPU is used). It is definitely true (I think) with just the internal LCD under normal non GPU usage. The other fan seldom kick in...
Anyway, thanks again to all those who have helped answering questions and provided tips! Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrateLast edited by huoyjii; 30th November 2011 at 02:17 AM.

Re: M6600 Owners Thread
Can someone explain why Dell as made the 2x60 cpu available only for large enterprise because it is really the same machine right just a different price point Is it cuz the dont wana give small b the discount considering the up charge I think not I just cant wrap my head around it or possibly they dont have enough for all right now
plus why the f do they still not offer the top shelf 2960xm cpu Is it cuz the motherboard cant handle the higher clock or possibly they had problems in QA testing and if so do you think they will ever get the 2960xm on this model

Re: M6600 Owners Thread
Bokeh I read you are gunning for the ips and will have a review available hopefully soon but I was wondering if you were thinking of attempting a custom merge of the ips and touch screen which I think would be great
In theory I think it should work considering the touch and LCD panel are independent correct

Re: M6600 Owners Thread
The IPS panel has some very unique requirements. The touch screen may interfere with it or it may interfere with the touchscreen. Would be interesting to try.
On the other hand, the IPS has a stronger antiglare surface. Putting the digitizer in front of it could create other issues.M6700 - i7-3920XM / Nvidia K5000M / IPS

Re: M6600 Owners Thread
I have no idea. My guess is that even if it was removable that you would need a full clean room to avoid dust getting between the digitizer and panel. Not something I would likely do. I do think it is an interesting idea though - the best panel you can buy (in theory) with a full digitizer on it.

Re: M6600 Owners Thread
the thickest one they have is 1.5mm when I stack two .5mm it was not enough to do contact and I think the machine ships with 2mm pads so 1.5 should be fine
