See below for the Intel block diagram. Anything above 8GB is overkill in my opinion, but memory is cheap.

For most, I would agree. However, for those of us who operate VM's - that extra memory comes in handy. I routinely have one or two VM's running, which do ok as long as they are XP VM's. However, I was trying out Win8 in a VM...and that wanted more memory than I was willing to give it without impacting my main OS and other VM's. Further, my Linux VM's also seem to benefit from having a good 4+GB of memory....

I went from an order with 3GB or so, quickly to 4GB, then to 8GB..and now, am tempted to do 16GB, but want to save my money to see if we (meaning erblemoof and possibly others) can realistically get Flash SSD working...

..you know, it's about time for an update... as I recall he was going to try a clean install with altered driver install routine to see if that enhanced system stability...

Nice find. Shame its not showing up on EBay US. The cheapest one here with the matched bezel was $49.99. Still though, 9.99 isn't bad for a working adapter, even if it doesn't quite match up perfectly.

Hrrrm... here's another entry into the mini-PCIe SSD from Innodisk. I know nothing about it, however it does indicate an embedded controller and explicitly states that it uses mini-PCIe, not mSATA.....

So, after contacting Innodisk, getting directed to their U.S. Sales, and then directed to apparently the only outlet (memorydepot.com), I find this page here for a miniPCIe DOM (Disk on Module).

Anyone else looking at that and saying WTH when they notice prices?!?!?!! Somebody is not in the real world... and they don't even have a 64GB listing!

It looks like that SuperTalent Corestore MV is the only reasonable offering at this time, but shucks, I was hoping for another reasonably priced alternative to try...

It's an industrial high-speed SLC drive. SLC is expensive.

Hrrm... has anyone tried this RunCore drive?

It has an internal controller according to this link at the Runcore store. For $100....... that is tempting.

They also have a 60GB Renice drive with a Sandforce controller, but at twice the price (here). So, it looks like there are several choices.

erblemoof - since you are the only person who has actively tried a mini-PCIe drive, a couple of questions for you:

1. Do 70mm drives fit in the slot, or do they need to be smaller?
EDIT: the WWAN slot is longer than the SATA FLASH or WLAN slots, so I assume the WWAN is 70mm, and the other two are...what, 50mm? If all three are PCIe, then is it theoretically possible that any of the slots will work for any of those cards, theoretically?
2. Also, does it seem possible that drives with different controllers/firmware may work better than others, or do you think 99.9% of your problems are really at the level of the e6520 BIOS, regardless of which drive is used....

...Not that I'm crazy anxious to get one and try it, or anything....

You could check this modem, not sure if it works but it is pretty cheap to give a try.

Lately my E6520 is getting warmer, the CPU (I7-2760) is around 59-64C on idle/very light usage and I was wondering if this just due to the warmer weather (about 30C), previously it was in the 50-55 range. If not shall I proceed on re-pasting the CPU (Artic 5...) or try to see if something else?
What temps range do you get on your CPU (quadcore) when in idle / surfing the web at what ambient temperature?

PS: My usual power plan is cool or power saver, just run WEI and it went to 99C!
