I just recently upgraded from an E6400 (P9600 @ 2.66GHz, 4GB ram, Vista x32) to an E6420 (i7-2620M @ 2.70GHz, 8GB ram, Win7 x64) - and the speed improvement was beyond my expectation. The move from 4GB to 8GB (and thus 32bit to 64bit) was a key factor, but the additional CPU performance is definitely noticeable as well. For me, I'm only wishing I upgraded sooner!

No input on the gaming side - but for a programmer / uber power user, I'd say the upgrade is well worth it.

(For me, it was WAY cheaper to get 8GB of Corsair memory from Newegg than to let Dell fill the memory.)

my problem with GPU is solved. had a problem with heatsink pad/shim on gpu. replaced it, make it a bit bigger, because there was a gap between nvidia gpu and heatsink, now is everything fine, stable, quite, can even play few games, 3d mark 06 score is 5440

That's more than ok. I've run Aero on a netbook with a GMA950 just fine, even with like, a 2 score there.

Benchmarks are benchmarks. It's how the system feels in daily use that's the important thing.

Hi--this is a first time post and here is my situation. I have a new E6420 that came with the 1501 wireless minicard and I thought perhaps the Intel N6300 AGN would be a nice upgrade. However, I am having all kinds of trouble getting it installed. I have downloaded the installer R292654.EXE and try to run it but continue to get an error-- "This software package cannot be installed on your system. The setup application will exit." When I try to just load the driver from the device manager/etc I get "This device cannot start code 10" and "Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it." The device shows in device manager as N6300 AGN but with a yellow exclamation mark. I have spent several hours uninstalling the 1501 card and software/drivers etc to no avail. Can anyone steer me in the right direction for this wifi card switch. I believe it has something to do with the system configuration because I see the following in the log file generated when I try to run R292654.exe (the utility for the Intel N6300 AGN): MUP Package contains version: 14.00.20110
    Execute: setup.exe
Error: setup.exe exited with return code: 6
    MUP finished: Mon Jan 09 15:23:46 2012

    Exiting with Return Code: 6

--I have NO clue about MUP.EXE or how to alter this file in order to make this software/driver work properly.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me! Oh, by the way, I have also tried to download and install the Intel driver/software directly from Intel's website but that also fails and gives me the error messages also.

    Hi everyone.

I just ordered an e6420 off the Dell outlet site with the 1600x900 and i5 2540m

Just wondering if a future upgrade of say this INTEL i7 2720QM 3.3GHz quad ES mobile CPU processor for 65 chipset laptop monkey | eBay

    is possible to change out?

    Thanks :-)

Not sure if this will help anybody, but I had a corner popping problem and ended up figuring it out. Apparently the hard drive is a structural part of the laptop and the SSD I put in (240 gig Agility 2) is a hair too thin.

So I shimmed the hard drive caddy a bit, no more problems.

The aftermarket 6300 card you obtained may not have the Dell ID string encoded in it so the Dell driver will give you these errors. All you need to do load the Intel direct driver package here: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...=3315&lang=eng
